Shortly after discovering the murderer of their former Chief Tactical and Security Officer, the crew of the USS Highlander are called upon by Admiral Ross, to bolster the Fleet protecting Earth from the Dominion Forces. As the crew prepare to leave Starbase 10, Captain Connare James, promotes Lt. Laiz to Chief Tactical and Security Officer, with the rank of Lt. Commander and Engineering Officer, Lt.Jg Stewart to Full Lt. With the formalities out of the way, the USS Highlander departs Starbase 10, and races to Sector 001 at maximum warp.

As they arrive, the space surround Earth, is a war zone, with floating hulks of former Federation, Klingon and Romulan Starships. The Dominion Forces have broken through the picket lines and attacked Planet Earth. Immediately, the Highlander is joined by the USS Enterprise, USS Invincible, USS Valiant and the USS Intrepid as the engage the enemy. The Highlander, like the other starships takes heavy damage. With the shields down, Breen warriors beam aboard the Highlander and are confronted by deck by deck Security teams under the command of the Borg Deputy Security Officer, Lt. Hayes.

Meanwhile, in Sickbay the Doctor and her staff are working overtime tending to the casualties. Newly promoted Lt. Aydax Stewart is seriously injured and the medical team face a life or death situation. After eight hours of intensive surgery, the Lt. is recovering, yet still in a comatosed state.

Back on the war front, it is still very much a stalemate with neither side able to take the upper hand. Both Dominion and Federation starships lay a drift, or destroyed. Jean Luc Picard from the USS Enterprise, takes command of the remaining Fleet, and with a concerted effort, the Federation is able to push back the remain Dominion forces. With the immediate threat removed, many of the vessels, including the Highlander, commence to make hastily repairs. The enemy will be back. Lt. Commander Laiz and Lt. Hayes manage to get Tactical systems back on line, while the engineering crew under Lt. Commander Sidney James, manage to gerry rig the Ships shield and Warp engines enough to have them partially operational.

Finally, as expected, long range sensor show a small fleet of enemy vessels converging in a nearby star system for another attack. Picard orders many of the still functioning starships to take the fight to the enemy, and with the USS Highlander in their numbers, the small and battle damaged fleet warp out to meet their foe.
