"Ultra Do the Mizz"

NEED something ? Want something ? Say you do and Ultra are the band you should be tuning into ' cos with their top tunes you're guaranteed to be more hooked than a fish on the end of a rod .

The instrument playing four pieces have been sweeping UK since touring with Louise , Boyzone and More recently , 911 and this week they finally got round to releasing their debut single Say You Do a chorus you will be humming for months .

So what the jiggins took 'em so long ?

"Initially we were meant to release it in April last year , but it kept getting put back " explained lead singer James Hearn when I join Ultra backstage at the 911 tour .

"we really just wanted to build the database . When we play we increased the database because we put cards out , So when we put the single out , hopefully a lot of people will buy it ."

"When you start a new band ,take a long time to build up the fanbase," Added drummer Jon O 'Mahoney .

"It's scary" confessed James "I'm scared of it not selling anything ,and I'm scared of it not selling bucketloads - I'm quite scared of being big - it's quite daunting .But it's such a short term thing.Even really successful band have a shelf life of about 3 years anyway, so even if we were successful,I think about 5 years down the line we'd be anonymous again."

There's not much chance of them staying anonymous at the moment anyway , since other wrapping up 3 big tours ,Ultra are hoping on the MIZZ Roadshow bandwagon,which is currently kicking around the UK .

In between all this promo,they managed to squeeze in time to jet off the Big Apple to shoot the vid for Say You Do on top of the skycraper .

"It was a last minute thing" Jon told me . "We got a phone call saying they were going to fly us to New York to do it and we got there and did it on top of the skycraper .It was unbelievable to go there .It was the best thing we have done ,I think ."

"It was absolutely freezing cold," remembered James ,"And we got over fed over there .We had 40 english crews out there but for every English person they employ they have to have an American as well for some reason .We had 80 people working for us.We had caterers who kept bringing us food ,someone would bring us breakfast ,then someone else would bring us breakfast ,try that burger ... You feel you have to be polite and eat it ,so you're just stuffing your face all the time.We came about two stones heavier each of us

The Buckinghamshire lads,James (21),Jon (24), and Michael Harwood (22 , guitar) got together back in the school yard days and hooked up with 23 - year - old bass player ,Nick Keynes,when they hung out at the same studio and now five years on they're ready to shake up the chart .

"We are pop group" said Michael ,"And we are not ashamed to say it .it's about time there was a great pop band on the scene and we want to be it !"

"I think our main strength is song - writing" James explained ."We write the songs ourselves .We've already got most of the second album written!! We're basically about song - writting and music .I've been writting since about 12 years old and I just love song - writting . I think we've got a lot of songs to give"

"You get a lot of bands that the first song's are really good but they don't come up with anything else - one hit wonders ," said Jon "I think with us if the first single does well ,we 've got another four really strong songs ."

Invigorating pop with their 80s feel is sure to see Ultra shooting up the charts and it's abotu time we had more guitar pop groups to show that you don't have to be indie just 'cos you play instruments .

"I'm surprised it hasn't happened," said James discussing the lack of pop 'bands' .

"We've been together for five years and we always thought there's bound to be one coming out soon and still there's nothing there.You've got your indie bands,but there's no real 80s pop bands - that's what we are trying to be"
