Rarely seen in cats in our region, because most cats are systematically spayed at a young age (7 to 8 months).
The cat in this example did not show any specific signs : it had a fever, would not eat for about a week ; she drank more than usual. On an X-ray the uterus seemed enlarged. There was a slight white discharge from the vulva.
Conclusion : spaying a cat in its young age is the best measure to prevent pyometra. A cat with pyometra is sick : it has fever, won't eat, loses weight : not ideal conditions for an anesthesia and a surgery ! But surgery is the only treatment for this disease !
