Spay and Neuter Information

Why Spay your cat ?    Why Neuter your cat ?

Being on both sides of the fence (figuratively speaking) as a breeder and an advocate of spay/neuter procedures I have seen first hand the seriousness of this problem.  I have visited Animal Shelters during kitten season and though I want to take them all, I can only take a few. When an owners cute little female kitten grows up and proudly delivers her first litter, a majority of these first time moms wind up in Shelters. These are the lucky ones.

My rescue efforts have included a box of kittens taped shut on the side of the road, to the bag of kittens thrown in a campground dumpster with the momma cat in a cage next to it. I spay and neuter all of my rescue kitties when they are old enough, my personal pets and also some purebreds. When kitten season strikes, there is no amnesty for ANY breed of cat. I have rescued them all. From feral cats to domestic and also the purebreds. The most heart wrenching thing is that NONE of this is necessary.  There are low cost spay/neuter programs in every county in the state. There are also free programs for those who cannot afford it. For information in your area, contact your local Animal Shelter or Humane Society for spay/neuter assistance.

In Lake County contact the Clear Lake Animal Welfare Society (C.L.A.W.S.) (707)263-1646. CLAWS offers reduced cost spay/neuter vouchers that are accepted at most of the countys' veterinarian hospitals.

In Mendocino County contact S.N.A.P.,  P.O. Box 4, Talmadge, Ca 95481. SNAP offers free spay/neuter assistance and accepts small donations.

These may be easy choices for some but other have been led to believe in myths and just plain ol' bad information. Please follow the below links to find out why these two procedures are so important.
