Exotic Persians
The origins of these
cats date back to the attempts of American Shorhair breeders to introduce
the coat texture qualities of the Persians into their cats. Some fanciers
liked the resulting hybrids and decided to use them as the basis for a
new breed. The Exotic Shorthair was first recognized as a breed in 1967.
Although Burmese and American Shorthairs were used in the early days, only
outcrosses with Persians are permitted in American pedigrees today. The
Exotic has the same breed standards as a Persian and competes with Persians
at Cat shows.
My Exotics breeding stock
is from Arealand Cattery,
owned by Gil Arellanes. A special thanks goes to Gil for all his help,
expertise with the breed and pedigree reading, his support and much needed
empathy during my first breeding season.
