Students and Tutors Hear Larry Elder at Town Hall of Cleveland
On February 6, 2012, students and tutors from The Saturday Tutoring Program attended a Town Hall of Cleveland lecture. (Since 1931, Town Hall speakers have been enhancing audiences' knowledge of the sciences, humanities, economics, history, and current events.)
For many in the group, it was their first visit to the historic Ohio Theatre at Playhouse Square. The speaker was Larry Elder, who is a well-known radio and television host, best-selling author, and newspaper columnist. Mr. Elder's topic was "American Exceptionalism: Is America Still a Land of Opportunity?" Mr. Elder's views gave the group much to discuss, and encouraged the students to research details to support their opposing opinions. The STP group was treated to a photo and autograph session with Mr. Elder after his presentation.
Special thanks go to Town Hall administrative staff and a trustee for making this field trip possible. (Town Hall provides opportunities for Northeast Ohio high school juniors and seniors to attend Town Hall lectures.) The trustee even secured funding for the RTA Healthline bus ride, and pizza and fresh fruit served at the Church of the Covenant before the trip. The Saturday Tutoring Program tutors and high school students had an evening they will never forget.
