Model: Stephenson's "Rocket"

Modeller: Graham Jost, Bentleigh East, Victoria, Australia

Notes: An original design by Graham scaled primarily to the 3" Spoked Wheel, approximately 1:19.  Loco drive is from a crane motor in the boiler - before mounting on its plinth, enviable wheel-spin was readily achievable from a standing start on a smooth floor!  Mr Stephenson is at the controls, while his fireman has time to wave the Union Jack, most patriotically, to the crowds!  Concealed drive to carriage and tender wheels is by Spring Cord running beneath the wheels remote from the viewing side - the more the viewer bends down to discover how it's done, the less likely he is to find out!

Model: "Samson" the Strong!

Modeller: Donald A.Redmond, Kingston, Ontario, Canada

Notes: "Samson" was the first locomotive to run in Nova Scotia, Canada, way back in 1837. It was built by Timothy Hackworth in England. Donald's scale model may make purists frown, but it does capture the period flavour, doesn't it?

Model: Ffestiniog Railway Double Fairlie Locomotive "Livingstone Thompson".

Modeller: Paul Joachim, London, UK.

Notes: The model is built to a scale of 1" per foot and is fully detailed.  These locomotives were the first bogie steam engines in the world and the FR has 3 preserved and running on their 2' gauge railway in Wales.  The model is powered by 2 M0 Mk I motors.
