Did You Give A Smile Today?
|
What did you do today my friend
Along the path of time?
Did you once stop to help a child
Or give someone a smile?
Or help an aged cross the street
Or guide them on their way?
Open a door to some sweet soul
Did you give a smile today?
Did you compliment some one you met
If you knew, or stranger be
A quick hello or glancing nod
Did you give a smile so free?
Did you travel down the road today
As if you were a king?
Or did you give the right of way
To make a joyful ring?
Did you give a glance or friendly wave
As they grumbled on their way?
It might have been just what was lost
Did you give a smile their way?
Some may be down, depressed or hurt
On this road of endless time
And maybe by chance you came along
The one to give them the smile.
I know that a smile to me is no good
If stored in a selfish way
But turn it loose, share it around
I gave some away today.
I also received my share today
One from the lady I love
Some from those I call as friends
And some from the Lord above
I met a young maiden this even tide
She bowed to say her grace
Lifted her face in radiant glow
And gave me, her smile to face
I need that smile to fill my heart
As I was down and in deep depress
It cheered me up, and lifted my soul
It was as a sweet lovers caress.
Don't hold back that smile you'll never run out
No avail to you, if you hold,
I've asked you once I'll ask again
Did you smile for some needed soul?
