Showbiz people briefs

NEW YORK (Variety) - ``Hurricane'' director Norman Jewison will be honored at the 18th annual Upton Sinclair Dinner June 13 in Los Angeles.

He will receive the Liberty Hill Foundation's Upton Sinclair Award, which recognizes work that calls attention to social and economic abuses in American life.

Nation magazine editor Katerina vanden Heuvel and comedy troupe Culture Clash will also be among honorees at the ceremony.

The Liberty Hill Foundation has given more than $9 million to groups working to alleviate socioeconomic problems.

Past Sinclair Award recipients include Harry Shearer, Ted Danson, Mary Steenburgen, Alfre Woodard, John Singleton, Jane Fonda, Oliver Stone, Harry Belafonte, Martin Ritt, Ed Asner and Mike Farrell.

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Adrien Brody (''Liberty Heights'') is set to play Hilary Swank's estranged husband in the WB/Alcon Entertainment period drama ``The Affair of the Necklace.'' Brody recently wrapped helmer Ken Loach's ``Bread and Roses.''

... Joey Slotnick (''Pirates of Silicon Valley'') has been added to the cast of the Fox series ``The Faculty'' Slotnick will be seen with Kevin Bacon this August in helmer Paul Verhoeven's ``The Hollow Man''

... Alexondra Lee (''Party of Five'') is set to co-star with Camryn Manheim (who also produces) in the ABC telepic ``The Last Laugh'' a gender-reversed take on ``Cyrano de Bergerac.'' Lee also appears in the upcoming Paramount release ``What Women Want.''

... There are two new additions to the cast of the indie feature ``Wet Hot American Summer'': Michael Ian Black, best known as the voice of the litigious Pets.com sock-puppet, and Ken Marino (''Men Behaving Badly''). The pair will join Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Chris Meloni and Paul Rudd in the 1980s summer camp comedy.

... Actress-turned-sports journo Lisa Guerrero (''Sunset Beach'') has inked a deal with Fox Sports Network to report on regional sports in the West and do ringside for FX's ``Tough Man'' while continuing to co-host ``Sports Geniuses.''

Another ``Sunset Beach'' alum, Ali Landry, has been tapped for a recurring role on the WB's ``Felicity.'' She'll also be seen in Destination Films' upcoming release ``Beautiful,'' with Minnie Driver.

... Patrick Malone (''Twilight'') has nabbed one of the leads in the indie comedy ``Face the Music.''

... Joanne Baron (''Allie & Me'') will join Omar Epps and Rita Wilson in Michael Rymer's improvisational feature ``Perfume,'' set in Manhattan's fashion world.
