Hecate

Background: Hecate was an ancient goddess of the Greek pantheon.  She was most often associated with Selene, sometimes Diana or Luna—moon goddesses of mystery and magic.  She was the goddess of crossroads.  Hecate stood, her three faces looking down the three different roads that one could take.  She was later associated with evil and darkness.  For the purposes of my story, Hecate would become a goddess of darkness and confusion.  I made her a shadow creature, daughter of the Greek being Nyx or Night, one of the oldest of the Greek pantheon.

Abilities:  She can teleport herself—a power that most gods and goddesses of every pantheon wield.  But hers is even stronger because she can cross dimensional barriers with ease, taking others with her.  This makes her more powerful than her siblings Moros, Age, and Apate (the Children of Nyx).  They cannot even enter the earth realm.  Hecate is also able to make herself solid or insubstantial, sometimes even taking on human disguises.  It is said she knows all secrets whispered in the dark.  This appeared to be true because she knew all about such things as Astarte, Gilgamesh, Uli’s parents, and the Jewel of Life. That is why Gilgamesh made sure there were no shadows around when he wanted to speak to Astarte in private.  Combined with her great knowledge is her ability to manipulate people.  She has a way of playing on people’s emotions to get them to do what she wants.  When this doesn’t work, she resorts to energy blasts of dark fire.  She also knows long-forgotten spells of evil magic.

I did this creature based on a picture I saw in a "how to draw superheroes and villains" book. No tracing involved! I was interested in making a character that was ghost-like. I also liked the tattered-cloak look.
