The Legato were conquered during the Imperium's phase of greatest expansion. They were attacked simply because they were available. Within hours of dropping onto the Legato homeworld, the Guard had forced the badly beaten defenders to surrender.
Legato are an uncommon sight on most Imperium worlds. The plant-men prefer to stay
on the low-gravity worlds and moons they have settled. Few buildings are built for their height
on most worlds, and the Legato dislike standard gravity. Legato are usually found either on
worlds they have settled or in space, exploring for new worlds or trading. They are also rare in
the military, because no standard vehicles or ships are built for their height. They do not object
to this apparent discrimination, because they have no desire, as a whole, to fight in the Stellar
Guard. Rather, they prefer to find new worlds, settle them, and maybe trade the fruits of those
worlds.
Racial Advantages: Doesn't Breathe (20), Doesn't Eat or Drink (10),
Extra Arm (10), Extra Leg (10), Slow Regeneration (10), Regrowth (40), 360
Degree Vision (25)
Racial Disadvantages: ST -3 (-30), HT -1 (-10), Total Pacifism (-30), Vulnerability (herbicides, occasional, 2d) (-20).
Suggested Advantages: Mental advantages are common; combat advantages are almost unknown.
Suggested Disadvantages: Some Legato buy their Pacifism down to Self Defense or Cannot Kill, but very few buy it off completely. Combat Paralysis is redundant unless the Legato has bought down Pacifism. Cowardice is also reasonably common, but not enough to be a racial trait; many Legato are courageous, they just respect life too much to fight (plus they're not very good at it).
Alliances and Allies: The Legato respect humans, although they try to curb some of the Imperium's most expansionist policies. They get along well with the Animo, as both races are basically peaceful. They avoid the Drugan, Xenon and Aron whenever possible. The aggressiveness of these races troubles the Legato, and they don't like to deal with them.
