At the beginning, Michael Cole wlks down to ringside to take his seat as play-by-play announcer, along with color commentator Jerry The King Lawler, but halfway down is ambushed by Tony Schiavone, who demands to be play-by-play man. As he walks to the ring, he trips and falls cutting his hand. He sees the blood and faints on the spot, causing Mike Tenay to carry him backstage. As Cole starts to get up again, he is interrupted by JR who says that its his job, and nobody can do it better. Suddenly, Gordon Solie walks out, and Ross turns around all scared : "I thought you were dead" (Little Hogan/Warrior reference). Solie doesn't say a word to JR, but Ross just bows his head and walks backstage. Solie goes down and takes his place as the play by play man. He then talks to the crowd and reveals the first two entrants of the War Games: Goldberg and Sting! He also reveals that there will be a full five minutes between entrants.
People get all excited when Goldberg walks out, but when Sting is called out, we see a figure in a white mask and black trenchcoat. The mask is lifted to reveal....Scott Hall! He walks down to ringside, and Goldberg comes out to meet him. Hall runs around the ring chased by Goldberg, and jumps in and locks the door. The crowd is then treated to survey time: "HEY YO. As you may know, we're running a little survey, and we want to know if you're with us or against us. How many of you came here to see.....ee see dubba ya? Not bad, not bad. How many of you came here to see.....dubba ya see dubba ya? A few, a few. How many of you came here to see....dubba ya dubba ya eff? Pretty good. Now, how many of you came here to see the N...........W............O? One more for the good guys. That's right, we're taking over, and thre ain't no way Flair's boys are going into this battle ahead of the Wolfpac." Hall unlocks the door, and Goldberg enters, starting the match. Hall immediately goes on the offensive, hitting Goldberg with multiple moves, and tying him up in the ropes between the two rings. Hall starts walking around, mocking Goldberg, slapping him on the top of the head as he struggles to get out. The siren sounds, and out comes competitor number three.
It's Paul Wight. He breaks into a dead sprint to the cage and is in before Hall has any time to prepare. He gets on Hall immediately, beating him senselessly, delivering headbutts and a massive Russian legsweep. Meanwhile, Goldberg has gotten out of the ropes and paces toward Wight. Everyone in the building can sense the tension, and Hall slinks to a corner to
recuperate. Wight and Goldberg start going at it intensely, with massive power moves all around. Meanwhile, Hall sits in the corner laughing at the two of them. The two notice and go over to beat on him and the siren sounds for competitor number four.
Sabu approaches the ring intensely, knowing he must prove himself to his bigger opponents. He steps in the ring and immediately attacks Hall as Goldberg and Wight resume their battle. In one ring, Sabu and Hall go at it intensely, as Sabu shocks everyone with high-flying maneuvers, constantly spring-boarding off of the cage walls and surprising Hall. He then attacks Wight, taking down the big man as Goldberg gets revenge on Hall. Wight gains the upperhand over Sabu, and picks him up for a chokeslam, but throws him into the cage instead, starting the bloodflow for Sabu. Wight then grabs Goldberg and delivers a chokeslam as competitor number five arrives.
As we hear, "Do you smell what the Rock is cooking?" the crowd erupts for The Great One. He comes down and immediately goes for Wight. Hall gets up and attacks Wight as well, as the Rock and Hall double team on Wight. Sabu gets up, and goes after Goldberg, who is returning to his feet. These two go all out, Goldberg with power moves, and Sabu continues an aerial display. At one point, Sabu ducks a superkick, runs up the cage, flips over Goldberg's head, and delivers a superkick of his own. Meanwhile, the Rock delivers a huge fallaway slam to the Big Show, and Wight is in perfect position for the People's Elbow. The Rock and Hall then exchange NWO signs, the Rock finds a mike, and congradulates all the trailer-trash jabronies on seeing the Great One deliver his first ever Wolfpac Elbow. The siren sounds again, and the sixth competitor starts to come out.
Shane Douglas starts walking to the ring, as brash and cocky as ever, wearing a bright robe, turning around to reveal "The Nature Boy" on the back. At this Flair runs out and jumps on Douglas, absolutely annihilating him. He slaps on the Figure Four, and Douglas cries out for Francine, and she comes out and Flair gets up, looking scared. She walks up to him, and the two embrace, walking backstage hugging. All action has stopped in the ring, so Sabu takes advantage of this, rolling up Wight and almost getting a three for the first pin of the match, but Wight kicks out just in time. Judge Jeff Jones comes out to say that Douglas doesn't deserve to be in this match, and that this competition and all the competitors are GUILTY. He then calls for a replacement, and out walks Sid.
Sid comes in and walks up to the Rock and Hall, but Hall points over to Wight instead. Sid and Wight start brawling to the delight of the Wolfpac members. They are then attacked by Sabu and Goldberg, and the match soon turns into an all out brawl, as the sides have been drawn. Suddenly Sabu is taken out by an Outsiders' Edge, and the Rock helps out with the three count as Goldberg and Wight, who had been brawling with Sid, try to save but are too late. As Sabu walks out, he meets competitor seven, on his way in.
Glass shatters, and here comes Stone Cold Steve Austin. The crowd is on its feet as Austin steps in and cleans house. Austin gives a quick Stunner to Sid, and covers up for the pin, but Hall prevents it. Wight and the Rock square off in one ring, while Goldberg faces Sid and Austin faces Hall in the other ring. Goldberg tosses Sid into the other ring just as Hall
escapes from Austin into the other ring, and Austin and Goldberg are left alone in together. Everyone in the arena is staring at them, but then glances over to see Sid deliver a devastating powerbomb to Wight, and the Big Show is eliminated. The Rock, Hall, and Sid all sit in one ring watching Goldberg and Austin go at it, and hear the siren sound, preparing for the worst in competitor eight.
Sure enough, though, here comes Big Sexy Kevin Nash. On his way out, he is taunting to Wight, and Wight promises that he'll get him back later. He joins in with the three watching as Austin stomps a mudhole in Goldberg, but turns around, and Goldberg gets up and spears him. Both men are slowgetting up. With that, the Wolfpac prepares to deliver a beatdown. They order in Sid, but Sid gets mad and goes after Hall, knocking him down with a viscious clothesline. He takes out the Rock and Nash as well, and prepares a powerbomb for Hall. He delivers it, but can't pin as Nash knocks him out with a big boot, and a sidewalk slam. The Rock delivers the Rock Bottom for the pin, and Sid is out, leaving six men in the ring and four to go. The Rock works on a very tired Goldberg, and Nash pounds on Austin, as Hall lies hurt in the corner. Goldberg and Austin are ready to be pinned, and as the Rock prepares to pin Goldberg, Nash picks him up, saying that he will remain the only person to pin Goldberg. Austin gets up behind their backs, and delivers a Stunner to Nash, but Hall prevents the pin. Competitor nine then makes his way to the ring.
Rob Van Dam comes to the ring, and immediately goes after Hall, trying to avenge the elimination of his tag team partner Sabu. Van Dam beats on Hall, still weary from the Sid powerbomb, as Austin battles the Rock and Nash battles Goldberg. Van Dam goes to the top rope to finish off Hall, but as he goes up, Goldberg throws Nash into one rope and Austin throws the Rock into another. Goldberg delivers the spear and Austin jumps on the Rock delivering right hands, but Van Dam is knocked off the ropes, and Hall gains momentum. These six continue battling in this way until competitor ten.
Mankind's music comes on, and everyone looks to the entryway, but nothing is there. A spotlight turns to the rafters, and it's STING! No wait, he took off the trenchcoat, and it's Mick Foley himself. But he cable snaps twenty feet above the cage, and Mankind starts to fall. He hits the cage, but goes straight through it, landing in the middle of one ring. Van Dam is now battling Austin and the Rock is fighting Goldberg, so Hall and Nash prepare to doubleteam Mankind, but Mankind gets up and delivers the Socko Claw to Hall. Nash tries to get him off, but Van Dam and Austin take care of him. Hall won't give up, but passes out and is counted down for the three, leaving Goldberg, The Rock, Austin, Nash, Van Dam, and Mankind, with Sabu, Wight, Sid, and Hall out, and Taz and a mystery WCW opponent remaining. Now, Nash takes a double team from Mankind and Goldberg, while Austin and Van Dam work on the Rock. Eventually, it degenerates into all out warfare, and nobody knows what's going on when the siren sounds for
competitor eleven.
Taz struts to the ring prepared for warfare, and immediately starts battling with Mankind, a ferocious hardcore matchup. Meanwhile, Goldberg and Van Dam are brawling while the Rock and Nash double team Austin. Those three are alone in one ring, and Austin fights out of the beating with a surprise Stunner on the Rock. Nash doesn't step in, though, allowing Austin to deliver the 1-2-3 to the Rock, and the Rock is out. Meanwhile, Goldberg gets the spear and jackhammer on Van Dam, eliminating him. The Rock gets up and is irate at Nash, but Nash just laughs, and says, "I don't need your help anymore, Hollywood's got my back in thirty seconds. Now get the hell out of here, loser." The clock is ticking down as Goldberg goes after Nash with help from Austin, and Mankind and Taz continue their battle, in which each is now gushing with blood from cage grating. Now, it's time for the final competitor to enter the ring as the final siren sounds.
Hollywood Hulk Hogan starts coming out, and gets a surprising pop from the crowd, but halfway down to the ring, he is jumped by Sting and Savage, irate that they lost their chance to battle in the War Games. They beat Hogan with belts and bats, and I think I see someone with Buffy the K-Dog (and tonight Hogan) Slayer written on his shirt aiming at Hogan with a rifle, but he decides against it. Savage and Sting make their way to ringside to enter, but are met by officials who tell them that only one may enter the cage, since only twelve competitors were allowed. They both want in, so they start a brutalbrawl, each hoping to get the final spot. As officials try to separate them, someone steps out from under the ring - it's Bret Hart! He sneaks in thering as the final competitor in this battle. Officials order Savage and Sting away from the ring, and surround the cage.
Immediately when Hart steps in the ring, he attacks Nash, and Goldberg andAustin move along to others. He delivers a backbreaker, and repeatedlythrows Nash into the cage walls. Finally, he delivers a Russian leg sweep and slaps on the Sharpshooter. Nash desperately reaches for the ropes, but it doesn't make a difference. Meanwhile, Austin gets in Nash's face and flips him two birds. Nash submits and is eliminated. Austin then goes after Taz and Mankind, while Goldberg wants a piece of Bret. Bret technically dominates, but Goldberg keeps coming back with power moves, while the other match rotates between variour two-on-ones. Finally, Goldberg gives a spear to Hart out of nowhere, and gets up slowly, preparing for the Jackhammer. He gets Bret in position for the finisher, but Bret catches him with a small package for the pin. Goldberg is eliminated, leaving Bret the Hitman Hart, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Mankind, and Taz as the Final Four competitors.
Taz faces off against Austin, and actually gets him in the Tazmission, but Mankind comes over and breaks up the hold, angering Taz, who starts calling Mankind a moron. Meanwhile, Austin recovers and sneaks up behind Taz, taps him on the back, and delivers a Stunner. Bret thinks about making the save, but thinks more wisely and lets the pin happen. Austin and Mankind then get up and start walking toward Bret, preparing to double team him and get him out. They beat him up and Austin turns to the crowd and gets them fired up. When he turns back to the action, he finds himself hit with a Double arm DDT courtesy of Mankind. Mankind then puns him, leaving Mankind and Bret.
Bret and Mankind size each other up, and shake hands before the start. They then start going at it viciously. Not much technical skills, but a whole lot of brawling. Mankind slaps on the Socko Claw at one point, but Bret delivers a mean Face First Russian Leg Sweep, and both men are down. Mankind gets up and Bret ducks a clothesline, then a sidewalk slam into the Sharpshooter. Mankind won't tap out, he's fighting to get free but can't. Eventually he passes out. Bret flips him over, hooks the leg, and gets the pin to become the winner of War Games!
WINNER: Bret Hart and World Championship Wrestling
