CHRISTMAS IN COPENHAGEN
Copenhagen is a Christmas city, not just because Greenland is the home of the
"Julemand" (Santa), but because this holiday is the most eagerly
anticipated by all Danes, who have passed down its simple pleasures and
traditions from generation to generation. Few people in the world can compete
with the Danes when it comes to preparing and celebrating Christmas .....
Copenhagen is an ideal city to visit in the weeks leading up to the holidays
with Christmas Markets, Christmas
Concerts in the city Churches, the streets are illuminated with Christmas
lights, the shops are brightly decorated, making your Christmas shopping even
more enjoyable. Most downtown Copenhagen shops are open the whole week
(including Sundays) through December. Many restaurants serve special Christmas
menus and offer "glögg" (mulled red wine) which will help put you in
the Christmas spirit.
The Royal Theatre Opera and Ballet season is on, and several special
Christmas performances are offered. Several open squares are transformed into
skating rinks, and you can rent skates by the hour. Copenhagen is truly a
magical place in December !

to stuffed toys. I am especially impressed with their Danish word fridge
magnets, which are perfect for those of us struggling to learn Danish and
