And that's supposed to excuse the intrusion because.... Mulder's lucky the old man wasn't a vociferous privacy activist. I would have made a huge stink had it been my property he trespassed on. "We're with the FBI" doesn't cut it for me. He'd have to come up with a bit more than that.
Trespassing: "We're with the FBI!" Mulder says. No one cares what you are and who you're with if you're trampling about their private property unannounced, uninvited, and sans warrant. Now maybe if he had explained that he was chasing a potential suspect it would be different.
How dumb is it for Mulder to decide to go in and investigate a tented house he happened to pass by all while not wearing any kind of personal protective equipment? Shaineh Berkowitz had already told him that she passed out after the house filled with some kind of smoke. Even if the house in question had nothing to do with the case he was currently investigating, walking into a house which is being gassed is clearly a really stupid thing to do. He's lucky it was just some kind of anesthetic and not poison to kill termites.
