about 11 pages worth of Styx material including the following: Pictures (from
the early days with JC all the way up to the current tour-line-up), an in-depth
discography, interviews, information, etc... So, all Styx fans should
definitely pic a copy of this magazine up! You should be able to find a copy at
any good music or book store.

Just Fell In (Tommy Shaw/James Young)
Goodbye Roseland (Dennis DeYoung)
Brave New World (Reprise) (Tommy Shaw and James Young)
The album clocks in at 59:59 on my CD player, and it rocks all the way!
On this new album, there are some of the classic Styx sounds and some brand
new Styx sounds. The first single from "Brave New World" is the track
"Everything Is Cool" which is a great song for those of you who haven't heard
it yet. This album has some brand new hard rockin' songs as well as some
serious tracks, and a few fun tracks that just have to be heard. For those of
you out there that have the album, you probably know what I'm talking about, and
for those of you out there who don't have "Brave New World" yet...WHAT ARE YOU
WAITING FOR...get out there and buy it!
The line-up for the new Styx tour is as follows: James "JY" Young, Tommy
Shaw, Glen Burtnik (Chuck's TOUR replacement), Todd Sucherman, and Lawrence
Gowan (Dennis' TOUR replacement). Read further for the reasons for the
current Styx Tour line-up.
As most of you probably already know, both Dennis and Chuck will not be on tour with
Styx this summer. I have heard rumors about Dennis possibly returning
to the road with Styx at some point in the tour this summer, but this,
at least to my knowledge, has not been confirmed. However, Dennis has
recently officially confirmed and given the reasons for his not being
able to tour with Styx this summer; If you would like to read the
official letter by Dennis concerning his absence from the next tour,
click HERE! In the case of Chuck, it seems that he decided to take
some time to grieve because he hasn't really had a break since his brother, John,
died back in '96--his mother also just passed away a few months back. So, although
he will be missed, it is understandable if Chuck wants to take a break.
Glen Burtnik (who joined Styx for the
"Edge of the Century" album and tour in 1990-1991), will be filling in for Chuck
on bass. Furthermore, concerning a fill-in for Dennis, Tommy recently
reported that Canadian, platinum selling artist, Lawrence Gowan, will
be filling in for Dennis on the new Styx tour. If you
would like to learn more about Lawrence Gowan, check out his
Official Web Site!
First of all, I would like to say that I have just seen this current tour-line-up
of Styx perform in Wilkes-Barre on October 7th, and they put on one hell of a
show! While I still would have preferred Dennis and Chuck to have been there, I
must say that Gowan and Glen are excellent performers! Plus, this is the most
varied set list that I have seen them play live in the past few years. If you
are a fan of Styx, go to see them live this tour, I doubt you will be disappointed!
I have added a bunch of fall-tour dates. All of the current
Styx tour dates that I have been able to track down are listed below! All of
the tour dates below aren't necessarily official yet. So, check out the Official Styx Website just to
double-check and make sure that the following dates are considered official.
However, due to the amount of time between updates for the tour itinerary on the
Official Site, you may also want to check out

Styx and the CMN Telethon!
Styx appeared LIVE on television for the Children's Miracle
Network Telethon(which benefits children's hospitals) on June 5th at 9pm-11pm
(Eastern Daylight Time).
This time around, the CMN telethon pulled in it's largest amount of
donations ever: Over $192 millioin!
Styx kicked the entire telethon off with with a very impressive show
which the crowd seemed to respond well too! They opened the show
with "Rockin' The Paradise," and, thoughout the mini-sets that they
played, Styx performed about 8 more of their classics including such
songs as "Lady," "Renegade," and "Come Sail Away."The line up for
the show consisted of the following: Dennis Deyoung (sporting his
"new" hairstyle:), Todd Sucherman (who rocked on his drums...as
always), JY (who seemed to be enjoying himself as always,
Glen Burtnik (who will be filling in for Chuck on the upcoming tour),
and Tommy Shaw (who was also sporting a new "do")! They all put on
a GREAT show, including Dennis even though he has not been feeling
well. In fact, Tommy said that Dennis' performance of "Come Sail
Away" was one of the best that he had ever seen Dennis perform! Styx'
appearance then ended with a brief, comical interview with four out
of the five members there.

SIR and MOM Re-issued!
Styx' early Wooden Nickle albums titled "Serpent Is Rising" and "Man
of Miracles" have been re-released on a two-fer CD (both albums
one one disc) by One Way Records (the same company who recently
re-released "Styx I" on CD)! Unlike One Way's re-released "Styx I,"
the ORIGINAL artwork has been used for "SIR" and "MOM!" The front
cover of the CD has two smaller versions of the album
covers with a blown up section of the "MOM" cover used as a background,
but the CD booklet has full CD-size versions
of both the front and back of both album covers inside the CD booklet. This
release has the song "Lies" on it which was originally released on "MOM." So,
it does not have the song "Unfinished Song" which was released on the 1980
re-release of "MOM." However, with "Styx I," "SIR," and "MOM" now re-released
on CD, I suspect many Styx fans will finally be able to have ALL of Styx' albums
on CD! Watch this area for a picture of the release which I hope to put up soon!
Styx Re-issues
Over the summer, all of Styx' A&M albums are scheduled to be
remastered and re-released on CD by Universal Music Group (UMG), under the
supervision of Bill Levenson. The following remastered albums were
scheduled to be released on April 27, 1999: "Best of: Backlot Collection," "Caught in the Act,"
"Cornerstone," "Kilroy Was Here," and "Paradise Theater." I haven't
heard anything more about these. Were they released, and has anyone
actually seen them? If so, e-mail me
!
Also, an official 3-CD Styx box set is scheduled to be released and may
contain tracks from Styx throughout their carrer--even some Wooden
Nickle songs--depending upon the outcome of licensing negotiations
with CMC and WN (RCA). Furthermore, I am excited to report that Bill
Levenson has found a live Styx concert from the Grand Illusion era that
he wanted to include as a 4th CD in the box set, but he hasn't gotten
the full approval of all of the members of Styx to go forward with this
plan. So, Mr. Levenson said that the CD might end up being released
separately at a later date.
Finally, there are plans by UMG to released remastered best of CDs
from Dennis, Tommy, and JY's solo albums! Please keep in mind that
all of what I have discussed above about the box set, live CD, etc...
are all TENTATIVE and may or may not be released!
Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto?!
If you have recently found yourself out in the kitchen during a
commercial getting yourself a tasty little snack and you thought you
heard "Mr. Roboto" blasting from your TV speakers, you're not crazy!
Recently, VW got the rights to use this Styx classic in one
of their commercials! Interestingly, Dennis and JY went into the studio and re-recorded about a one-minute clip
of the song to be used; so what you hear is a newly recorded version!
The commercial itself is reminiscent of Wayne and Garth's little spoof
of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody." Let's hope the new VW commercial
has the same affect as Wayne's World had...I know I'm a Queen
fan for life now with the help of WW back in 90/91! Keep your eye
out for this comical commercial: I think you should notice a familiar
"hand gesture" that the man in the car is doing right before his
buddy opens up the door!
For those of you out there who haven't heard the music that is used in
the commercial, I have added a link to the music section of the VW
site where you can hear the 19 second clip used in the commercial.
Click
HERE if you would like to go to VW music page! (Thanks to the
Styx fan out there who pointed this site out to me!)
Styx in an Adam Sandler movie?
The new movie "Big Daddy," which stars Adam Sandler, will have three
Styx songs in it: Come Sail Away, Blue Collar Man and Best Of Times.
Also, the main character in the movie is supposed to share a common
liking with his love interest...STYX!! The movie is scheduled to be
released on June, 25th...only four days before the release of Styx'
new album! So, let's all hope that this movie will spark some much
deserved interest in Styx among many people out there!
Return to Paradise on PBS?
PBS stations across the United States have recently gotten the right to air Styx' "Return to
Paradise" concert which was filmed on their '96 reunion tour. The airings of this excellent
concert began in March and are supposed to continue throughout the next 2 years. So far,
Tommy and JY have separately made appearances at some of the airings, and, some of the
people who donated substantial amounts of money to their PBS stations actually got to
speak with them over the phone! If you want to see if your local station will be
broadcasting it, go to the OFFICIAL STYX
WEBSITE for a listing of the PBS stations which now have the rights to air this!
Styx I
Finally, 27 years after it's original release by Wooden Nickle Records, "Styx I" has been made officially available on cd by One Way Records! Unfortunately, it doesn't have the original artwork, but it is still great to see this released on cd! If you are interested in ordering a copy, click HERE to go to One Way Records' home page!
Lady
This cd was recently released through BMG, and it is definitely worth the price! It is a cheap CD, I guess it could basically be referred to as a budget cd since it runs around $8-$10! If you don't see this CD with the other Styx CDs, be sure to check the budget bins in the music store you go to. The cover is a great picture of the original line up when JC was still with the band instead of Tommy. The sound quality on this CD is GREAT! I would say it is a "must-have" for any true Styx collector!
Dennis DeYoung
This title is scheduled to be released on October 19, 1999 by Hip-O records.
This album will basically be like a greatest hits; except, the last track, "The
Grand Illusion" is a newly recorded version of this classic backed by an orchestra!
Here is the track-listing:
1. This Is The Time
2. Desert Moon
3. Call Me
4. Don't Wait For Heroes
5. Warning Shot
6. Dear Darling (I'll Be There)
7. Suspicious
8. Southbound Ryan
9. Black Wall
10. Unanswered Prayers
11. Gravity
12. Beneath The Moon
13. Harry's Hands
14. Boomchild
15. The Grand Illusion
