Here's a rundown of all the programs I use for the site.
America Online 5.0: AOL RULZ D00D! Er... it sucks, but so what? The thing I hate is people stereotype AOLers. The chat feature is fun. Plus, now it supports IE capablities, so the browser is much improved. An overall great program if you're not a total internet junkie. I have found that the text editor within America Online is convenient, I even use it to edit some of my HTML files. Like this one--seriously, this file was made using America Online's built-in text-editor. But the actual online service is hell.
Anarchie 7.0- A great FTP client, I use this to upload all my files onto Tripod's server.
Netscape 3/4 IE 3/4/5: I don't surf the web or do that kind of stuff on these browsers. Mainly I use them to check compatability of the HTML I write.
Adobe Photodeluxe 1.0: A really really great program. We have about five copies of the CD-ROM. Apparently, manafacturers thought they were fooling the customer when they bundled this into their product. I received this along with my scanner and printer, as well as some other software. But, it works wonders. It's not as good as Photoshop, but it's really easy to use. I use this for most of my images, upon finishing I convert them to PICT files.
Adobe Photoshop 5.0 demo: I don't really use this program. I just work with it, and since I can't save, I capture it using the Mac's Command-Shift-3 feature, which snapshots the monitor and everything that's going on. I know I'm ghetto.
Freehand 8: Okay, this program isn't really essential. But I do like the idea of insta.html, a program that takes Freehand documents and turns it into actual HTML. Cheap, I know, and you don't learn very much HTML, but very easy. The only thing I don't like is the fact that something is wrong with the import graphic command. The picture just looks very screwed once you import it, I haven't really had the time to learn how to solve it. So I toss it aside most of the time.
GraphicConverter 3.3.1- I use this program to convert all my images from PICT files to JPEG or GIF files. Or rarely, especially with GIF-oriented files, I'll edit them here.
Simpletext: The wonderous text editor for the Mac, way better than Windows Notepad. Anyways, I use this to write up all my HTML. (Then I open the file with AOL/IE/Netscape and experiment with the HTML.)
ixTV: The program I use to capture from my capture card, which is usually from a VCR. It's nice, but sometimes during movie capture the frames repeat and jump around and the video file gets all screwy. But for one-frame shots, it's great. Especially with VKLL's master tapes. With other tapes however, during slow playback the screen jumps around.
VistaScan DA v1.2.2: It's the program I use to scan things from my scanner. I don't know the complex functions of it, so I can't utilize it to full extent. I own a flatbed scanner of course, a UMAX Astra 1200 S.
MoviePlayer 2.5/4: The standard QuickTime movie program. I use 2.5 because it's not "crippled" like version 3.0 (update.. now there's a 4.0, which takes out the 'crippled' feature); which means I can export movies or pictures or sounds from video files.
American Heritage Dictionary: I used this to check words I didn't know, I used the thesaurus, and the dictionary. I rarely used it for the site.
Finder: The desktop program on the Mac OS. I had to include it because I used it in making the site.
