First of all, I would like to apologize for not updating this page until now. It has been a very busy month so far with recruiting and helping with charities. I figured that I would dedicate this month to Attitude, speaking of recruiting.

I have met several players that have a "me" mentality. I don't care if you ARE the best player and would help us a great deal. If you have the wrong attitude, you will not play the game on my team.

Get a sheet of paper and take this small quiz to see how you fair:

  1. Do you get mad when the setter keeps setting the other side, even if that player is "on"?
  2. Do you feel you don't have to be at every practice?
  3. Do you think that the other players on the team need lots of help, because they don't even come close to your level?
  4. Do you laugh and shake your head when some else makes mistakes, yet when you make them, explain to every one that it was someone else's fault or some outside force?
  5. Do you think that just because you're tall, you're automatically a Middle Blocker, or because you're short, you're a setter or defense?
  6. Do you jump serve in a match to show people the power serve, even though you get 1 in 35 good ones?
  • Do you constantly grab sets from the air in warm-up, because they're not exactly where you want them?
  • Do you shake your head and huff, when playing with people who think "Jungle Ball" is the real Volleyball, instead of trying to help them?
  • Do you only play with people who are better than you, and let the "Scrubs" kill themselves?
  • Do you feel that people who aren't as good as you on the court, only make you look better?
  • If you answered yes to a few (1 or 2) of the questions. You're okay, I know it's hard to play with some people because they might hurt someone by accident.

If you answered Yes to more than 3, get yourself some help, you will not be of use to anyone if your poor attitude continues. If you are a young player, you've got to realize that the world doesn't revolve around you, and of course, your mom thinks you're great, she's your mom. If you are older, why not consider teaching skills instead of laughing at people who are trying. After all, where did you begin?

I think that Volleyball will never grow in the United States until we change our ways and try to make people better players. If we think that we are better than every one else, than Volleyball players will remain in the little cliques and play with the same people over and over. So get out there, change that attitude and help your fellow man (or woman).
