"Hey Ike." Zac said as he shuffeled through the kitchen and over to the fridge.
"Hey," Isaac said inbetween mouthfuls of macoroni and cheese. "Did you just wake up?"
"Yeah. What time is it?" Zac asked groggily. Isaac glanced over at the microwave.
"2:07. You're up early." He said. The funny thing was, he wasn't joking.
"I know. I couldn't sleep. The daylight from the windows woke me up." Zac said, taking a seat at the table and opening his Dr. Pepper.
"If that was true, you'd have been up seven hours ago." Isaac said, laughing a bit.
"Well...I mean, I'm tired! This album is just wearing me out, I guess." Zac admitted.
"Yeah, I know. It seems tougher than the last two."
"Mmhmm. Maybe we should do something today instead of lazing around the house all day. I mean, it's supposed to be a relaxing day because it's Tuesday, but we should have some fun too."
"Yeah, but what should we do? There aren't any movies I want to see, I don't want to go to the mall, Chris and Tristan are both out of town, and neither of us have significant others." Isaac pointed out.
"What about that one girl that you were pal-pal with a week ago? What was her name?"
"Annie, I think. It wasn't really anything. Tristan introduced me to her and we went out on a blind date. But she wasn't really my type." Explained Isaac.
"Yeah, I know. I don't really miss Hillary anymore."
"That's probably a good thing since she lives so far away, you know."
"I know. What do you think about that girl that Tay likes?"
"The music one? She's nice. She seems to like him and he likes her. And she's also really really talented."
"How do you know?" Zac questioned.
"That one day she came over, she and Tay made a little computer recording of the song so they wouldn't forget how they'd arranged it, and he played it for me. She can play the guitar, but her singing is just amazing. I really hope it works out for them. I think it'd be good for Tay to have someone to hang out with besides us and his guy friends. A little female influence."
"Yeah, I guess. Hey! Isn't she playing at that one club tonight?" Zac asked excitedly. Isaac paused to swallow.
"I think so! Maybe we could go! Show Tay that we think she's cool, support her, and get out of the house all at once. Good idea Zac."
"Thanks. And plus, I bet there will be a lot of girls there too." Zac said, raising his eyebrows jokingly at his brother. Isaac laughed.
"Usually Zac, the kind of girls you meet at clubs aren't the kind you'd take home to your parents. And plus, I don't really think they're your type."
"You haven't even met them yet! And plus, isn't that somewhat stereotypical of you? Maybe some of her friends will be there to support her and won't be drunk."
"Hmm...that's true. Maybe she'll have two friends." Isaac said, smiling.
"Yeah. So you wanna go?"
"Sure. Do you know when she starts?"
"Huh-uh. Why don't you call Tay's cell phone and ask him." Zac suggested.
"Ok...I was done anyway." Isaac slowly got out of his chair and walked over to the phone.
"Hey Tay, it's Ike."
"Oh, hey Ike, what's up?"
"Zac and I were just talking and we want to come and see your friend's show tonight, but we don't know what time it starts." Isaac explained.
"I think it starts at six, hold on, let me ask Andrea." Isaac heard a hand put over the phone and he waited patiently. "Ike?"
"Yeah?"
"It opens at six and she starts playing at 6:30, but I'm going to be there at 5:30 because she has to warm up and stuff."
"Ok, cool. So Zac and I will probably show up a little before she starts then. Hey, do you mind if we come or did you want it to be just you?" Isaac said, realizing that Taylor might have wanted to appreciate the music without commenting on it to friends.
"No no, it's great if you come! Her friend from our class and her friend's roommate are coming too, so I'll be with them anyway."
"Oh...good! Have you met them?" Isaac asked, trying not to sound like he was interested.
"No, not yet. But they're going over there at 5:30 with me so I should get some time to talk to them. Why, are you out 'scouting' again?" Taylor asked, referring to his and his brother's term for girl-hunting that was a result of a misunderstanding some years ago.
"We talked about it. Wanna do the regular?" Isaac questioned.
"Sure. It's a good thing I'll get to know them before you guys show up. What are you going to do if it's a toss-up?" Taylor questioned.
"Umm..find out how old they are and if it's a toss up, direct them appropriately. You know both of our limits."
"Yeah, deal. Ok, well, I should probably go. Andrea and I have some work to do on our song."
"Sure. Thanks. I'll see ya tonight."
"Ok, bye."
"Bye." Isaac hung up the phone and walked back to the table. "It opens at six and she starts at 6:30. But I want to get there at six because Tay said that there are these two girls that are going to be there with him that are friends of Andrea and I want to meet them."
"Oh, good. And that was the whole 'toss up-the regular-our limits' thing you guys were talking about?" Zac questioned.
"Yeah."
"Great. Is it still the same sign?"
"Well, we didn't make up a new one, so I guess so." Isaac said, shrugging.
"Ok. Hey, I'm going to go take a swim in case mom asks. You can come if you want." Zac said, walking over to the trash and throwing his can away.
"Ok. I think I'm gonna go play my guitar though, I've had these lyrics in my head for a while and I 'm trying to center them around a tune from a while back."
"Which one?"
"That one that we worked on for like, two months. We got the whole song down but we couldn't think of any lyrics. Remember, the one that had the funky backbeat on the drums and I used the cherry Gibson on, not the black one."
"Oh yeah, I really liked that song. I've been thinking about it recently too. Do you want to work on it together or is it more something you'd like to work out yourself?" Zac asked. Isaac smiled at him.
"Actually, I only have one line, so I'm going to go in there and see if I can get it to fit rythmically with the tune and if it does, I'll expand on it from there. So for now I'll just do it alone. After I feel good about it I'll call you, and if I don't feel good about it, I'll definitely call you."
"Ok. Remember to tell mom I'm in the pool. And if she asks, I wouldn't mind having any of the other kids in there, so if they want to swim, send them out."
"Ok." Isaac said as he started out to the mini recording studio the guys had set up in the basement. Zac headed up to his room to change and shut the door behind him.
