Robert Englund

Biographical Information

Robert was born June 06, 1949 in Glendale, California.  He is the only son of Kent and Janis McDonald.  Robert attended both UCLA and Oakland University, and has appeared in stage productions of "The Apple Cart', "Godspell", and "Saint Joan".  Robert has been married three times.  He first married in college.  He was then briefly married to actress Roxanne Rogers, whom he met shortly after the cancellation of "V'.  Roxanne appeared as a waitress in the only film that Robert directed, "976-EVIL".  His current wife is Nancy Booth, whom he married on October 01, 1988.  Robert is, of course, best known for his ongoing role as Freddy Krueger in the "Nightmare on Elm Street" film series.  He can also frequently be seen in guest roles on many television programs.  Thanks to Kris for some of the biography information!

From the Webmaster:  I didn't find this film disturbing, a la Taxi Driver.  The most disturbing was the casualness with which the killers carry out their deeds.  I was actually a little disappointed with the film, though I was very impressed with Martin Sheen's subtle performance.  Robert England does not appear in the credits.

From Miss Josh Emmett:  Despite what you might expect, this is not a movie about surfing.  This is about 3 men growing up.  The surf brings them together every few years, so you can follow their lives.  J-M, William and Gary are actual surfers, who thought this was a paid vacation!  And they did their own surfing for the movie.  (Ironically, when J-M was in an auto accident in the 90s, it brought the  3 of them back together after all those years.  Without William and Gary's help, J-M says he wouldn't be able to walk and talk today.)  As for Robert:  he is in a couple of crowd scenes at first.  Then he has a funny bit, where he pretends to be blind at the draft board (it works).  And has one line in which he says goodbye to William's character who is leaving for Nam.  I recommend this movie for the acting, the storyline, the wonderful shots of the ocean and the surfing, and the haunting scene of all the white tombstones row on row gleaming in the moonlight for all the guys who died in Viet Nam.  For all you trivia buffs:  check for a very young Charlene Tilton as a party girl, and Stacey Keach, Sr. as the fish man.

Robert Englund Says:

"It was about a bunch of people who were all dead and living together in this tiny little town.  It wasn't really all that scary as much as it was sad, actually.  These people were Norman Rockwell-type of characters.  I played a tow-truck driver, and someone else played a baker, and there was a Mayor and we were all dead.  There was this loveable little coroner, who also happened to be a mad scientist.  That was Albertson's role; it was perfect casting. Oh, we had some great effects and it was filmed up in Mendocino.  Stan Winston did the make-up.  It was great fun." (The V-Files)

From the Webmaster:  Craven came up with a brilliant concept and revitalized the horror movie genre with this film..  Freddy is genuinely creepy as is the ending.  I kept hearing the clicking of nails for days after seeing this for the first time!

From Scott:  First there was Michael Myers, then Jason and now, from the twisted imagination of Wes Craven, Freddy Krueger.  This is by far the best of too many Elm St. films that followed. Unlike Jason and Michael,  Freddy actually talks and has quite a sense of humour too! This role was the complete opposite of the lovable Willie, but Englund has no problems making the switch. I give this a 3 (out of 5). It would have been 4 but the sequels were just awful.

From the Webmaster:  An impressive third film after the dismal "Freddy's Revenge".  This is the first film that really dwells on Freddy's sick sense of humour, and I loved the return of Heather Langenkamp.

From Christine:  I personally enjoyed the movie''Phantom of the Opera.''  Robert was excellent. Jill Schoelen was a little on the ''ditsy'' side as Christine. Call me crazy, but I've seen it three times!  Robert Englund played a very smooth and dramatic Erik Destler, which I personally enjoyed. The movie Phantom of the Opera, itself made me a Robert Englund fan. If you truly are a Robert Englund fan, I think you should see it for sure!

From Rachel:  Being a big fan of Robert Englund, I loved it!  The main girl is a poor actress, which takes a bit away from it, but Robert does a great job!!  The best part is near the end---you'll have to see it to know what I mean.  I give it 5 stars!!!  He's just so sexy!

From the Webmaster:  The first time that I put this in on video to watch, I had to turn it off half way through due to a zombie scene.  Zombies just aren't my cup of tea!  However, the rest of the movie is rather tame, though some of the plot points are left hanging.  We know what happens to Freddy by the end of the film, but Robert Englund is still mysteriously missing.  Hmmm....

From Miss Raptor:  This was the first Freddy flick I saw, and it got me hooked.  I would recommend it to anyone and be the first to say that Robert Englund (minus the makeup) is really a handsome guy.  Wes Craven himself even makes an appearance.  It's got  a great storyline and even if you're not a Freddy fan, you'll enjoy it.

From Neil:  A good performance by Robert Englund as a friendly alien who wants to save the human race fails to save a low budget, low quality sci-fi film which shows its low quality by including a lot of soft porn.

From Margie:  Seeing as how this film said "starring Robert Englund" I assumed he would have a major part in this movie.  Well, you know what they say about the word "assume".  I believe he was in maybe 3 scenes and even then I was quite disappointed in his acting calibre.  After all the Nightmare movies I was expecting much more.  I'm still waiting.  The movie was not scary, the acting left quite a bit to be desired and overall I would rate this movie a C.  My children, ages 12 and 13, liked this movie because of the blood and gore, but it just wasn't enough to make up for a poor script and extremely poor acting.
