~~ WHAT'S NEW ~~
  • 1 September 2002

    • Japan : due to works in progress, the Japanese gallery of this website has been closed, but the same pages are available at the mirror website hosted by Tripod. Therefore, all the links to the relevant pages have been temporarily redirected.
Meanwhile, a new page about Hanafuda cartoon editions has been opened; these decks were previously dealt with by the special Hanafuda page. A new cartoon edition is now presented.

    • Iroha Karuta : this gallery has been divided into two parts, due to an additional page recently opened, which is about Iroha variants. Two new decks are shown in part 2.

    • sizes, shapes and colours : pictures from a mini-deck and a patience deck from Japan have been added.

  • 30 July 2002

    • Japan : in this section refurbishment works are presently being made; however, the matching section of the mirror site is open, having been already updated; the links from this site will be temporarily readdressed there.
Among the latest additions, the special Hanafuda editions gallery presents the Dragon-Tiger deck, a 4-player version of the game, and another edition inspired by a popular cartoon series.
Furthermore, different pages of the Japanese gallery now show samples of a 19th century flower card deck (replica).

    • India : also the Indian gallery will temporarily rely on the mirror site, already updated.

  • 25 June 2002

    • Japan : the gallery has been considerably enlarged and now contains seven pages; several new patterns (Echigobana, Kintokibana, Komaru, Unsun Karuta, and others) are discussed and illustrated. Due to the expansion, the whole Japanese gallery has been moved onto the sever that hosts the Tarot gallery (it.geocities.com).

    • Uta Karuta and Iroha Karuta : some new pictures of Kamigata Iroha and Kyou Iroha decks have been added; the text has been slightly revised.

    • India : also this gallery has been considerably revised and enlarged, with the addition of two new pages and three Ganjifa patterns.

  • 26 April 2002

    • Visconti Tarots : the gallery now discusses a further 15th century tarot belonging to the Visconti group, the Brera-Brambilla tarot (several new pictures).

  • 21 April 2002

    • India : a new gallery, featuring many pictures from two Ganjifa decks.

  • 2 February 2002

    • Cards Withouth Traditional Suits: the first section, Various Games, has been split into page 1 and page 2, and features several new pictures.

    • Germany and Central Europe - page 2: a picture of the Czech Dvouhlavé pattern is available, at last.

    • China and Hong Kong: page 2 (money-suited cards 2) now features a sample of a new MahJong deck; page 3 (Chinese chess cards) has new pictures of a four-colour deck with special subjects and a two-colour deck in western size; page 5 (character cards) instead presents a new pattern, the WaWa Pai.

    • Historical Notes: the article has been improved, and is now divided into two pages for the sake of an easier loading; some new pictures are also available.

  • 25 December 2001

    • mirror site: a new website that mirrors these pages is now open on Tripod server.

    • China and Hong Kong: this gallery has been enlarged, and now includes five pages; almost each of them contains new pictures and additions. In particular, the last page about character cards is entirely new.

    • South-Eastern Asia: this gallery has now one more page, with additions made to the Indonesian/Malaysian section and to the Thai section.

    • Expression gallery: a paragraph about Oriental cards has been added.

    • General refurbishment : the layout of most pages has been improved, and a few better pictures have been used to replace old ones.

  • 21 October 2001

    • China and Hong Kong : page 1 has been split into two separate documents to avoid a long wait in loading the pictures. In the same page 1 a new money-suited pattern is now shown.
In the domino card section (page 4) the SiChuan pattern has been added.
A new section (page 5) is dedicated to character cards.

    • South-Eastern Asia : the whole section has been improved with several new pictures, and has been split into three individual pages for Indonesia & Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

  • 28 August 2001

  • 10 August 2001

    • The Tarot and Other Early Cards : all the section is now hosted by a different Geocities server.
However, thanks to the links, each page is still accessible from this index, as if nothing had changed.

    • China and Hong Kong : the gallery has been given a further page, and is now divided into money-suited cards (part I), Chinese chess cards (part II), and Chinese domino cards (part III); revisions have been made to the text, with some additional pictures.

    • South-Eastern Asia : this section, previously named Malaysia and Vietnam, now includes also Indonesia and Thailand, and features some new pictures, as well.

    • Japan : also this gallery has a further page, due to the separation of the regional cards into two separate parts, mekuri patterns (four suits) and kabu patterns (single suit), with revised text and many new pictures.

    • uncut sheets : a new page dedicated to the Siciliane pattern is now available in this gallery.

  • 15 April 2001

    • International variants : this new page describes some French-suited cards that cannot be included among fancy patterns, nor among regional ones.

    • Japan : a second page for variants of Hanafuda is now open, while in the third page, dedicated to other patterns, both text and pictures about Kabufuda have been added.
