The CHUPAH also known as the wedding canopy, is a decorated tallit (prayer shawl) or a piece of cloth attached to four poles and stretched over the couple. The marriage ceremony takes place under the Chupah which symbolizes the creation of a new Jewish home. The chupah is open on all sides, a sign that visitors are always welcome into the new Jewish home.
