This is where it all began September 28 1965 Fort Dix N. J.
What I remember the most about Fort Dix NJ; Diana Ross and the Supremes, Phenomena, the Army Hospital, my best friend Dave Brown and Mary VanBuren pulling up in his white Corvette just for a quick visit to make me feel better, and that ride back to Fort Dix in the back of my dads car with my friends, it still seems like yesterday.
My Dad what a guy
On to Fort Gordon Georgia Airborne Infantry Training (A.I.T.)
this was a strange place for a young guy from upstate NY from a town with a population of (+ -) 5000 people lets face it, not to many states are orange. every place you go every where you look, sand, clay, dirt, every thing, orange.
Now I wouldn't say this place was tough, but Sometimes I needed some time alone to gather my thoughts and just plane rest..
What a way to spend a weekend Me and Bert Garcia
Fort Gordon was where I met some very special friends some of whom would be with me all the way through my Army service, like Roger Ruffcorn from Iowa, and William C Hoffman (Butch) from NJ. and Bill Greenley and Donley from San Francisco they would go on to jump school with me and ultimately Vietnam. and I'll never forget John Hickey form Miami Florida Or his larger than life Smile. John was also the first of my best friends that would never return from Vietnam You will never be forgoten
