Net Terms For Newbies



Generally Accepted Jargon


User - YOU! (you dolt!)

Cracker - Someone that breaks codes, or encryption. (or A White Southern male)

Pirate - Someone that copies copyrighted software illegally

Hacker - Someone that uses the bruteforce and stupidity method to gain access to computers. Or a computer programer who is overworked, and underpaid

Lamer - Those of you that are reading this. *j/k*

Lawyer - What you will need if you get caught hacking, cracking, or pirating

*LOL* - Laughing Out Loud (usually attracts looks from other ppl in the computer lab)

*LMAO* - Laughing My Ass Off (very painful)

*ROTFL* - Rolling On The Floor Laughing

*G* - Grin (word to Matt, the grinning idiot)

*EG* - Evil Grin

*J/K* - Just Kidding

UNIX - The GHOD operating system. Usually on mainframes. PC's can use Linux.

CGI - An old type of Unix script. Some older chat rooms use this

JAVA - A language used mostly by the internet. Some chat pages use this type of code.

IRC - Internet Relay Chat (a very fast type of chat "room")

ICQ - A progie that runs on your machine that tells you when your friends are on the net

Progie - Short for program
