When I wrote to actress Julie Stevens on 27 April 1999 I had no idea that four days later she would be telephoning me at home. To say it was a shock is a bit of an understatement. The conversation was brief, but as Julie was paying for the call and I was gibbering like an idiot anyway, it was fine by me! Julie was ringing to let me know she had received my letter, but that she was currently decorating and her typewriter, photos, etc were all packed away so she wouldn't be able to reply for a couple of months. She didn't want me to think she was "an ignorant old bag"! I'm sure you will agree this was an extremely kind and considerate act. Sure enough a few months later a couple of packages arrived. Included among them were the above 10x8 signed photo and a very nice letter in which she answered all my questions about The Avengers and her time working on Carry On Cleo among other things! A thank you card was promptly despatched. What this goes to prove is that you should always include your home phone number on your request letters. And you never know, having happened once it could happen again....
