A regular face on
Jackanory,
Kenneth proved to be one of the most popular story
tellers in the programme's history as did fellow Carry
Onner Bernard Cribbins.
In the early 80s Kenneth
provided all the voices for the characters in the
children's animated series Wilo the Wisp.
Kenny put his vocal talents to
great use in a variety of radio programmes - Hancock's
Half Hour, Beyond Our Ken, Round the Horne, Stop Messin'
About and the panel game Just A Minute.
Kenny proved just as popular
on television in Hancock's Half Hour and International Cabaret. He also used his voices for a whole clutch of
adverts including providing the voice of one of the PG
Tips chimps - his scenes from Carry On Regardless were
obviously good training! In the 70s and 80s he proved to
be a regular and reliably outrageous chat show guest -
and even went on to host Wogan in the Irishman's absence!
Kenny was an excellent (and
rather camp) Sir Henry Baskerville in a 70s film send-up
of The Hound of the Baskervilles!
In 2006 Michael Sheen portrayed
Kenneth in a drama based on his diaries called Fantabulosa for BBC4.
More to come........
