Business Computer Information Systems explores the computer and its software applications as it relates to the business world. Students are given the opportunity to learn the latest computer word processing, electronic spreadsheets, databases, graphics, and internet  using Microsoft products.

Business Computer Information Systems prepares the student with the skills needed to obtain an administrative job during summer vacation or as a part time job during their college careers.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students should know:

bulletBasic information systems terminology used in an automated office.
bulletHow to explain and use disk operating systems.
bulletThe most frequently used formats for business letters, memos, and business reports.
bulletHow to use word processing, database, internet, spreadsheet, graphics, desktop publishing software, and presentation software to solve business application problems.
bulletHow to organize and complete group office work projects using the software available in the course.
bulletHow to locate and prepare for job opportunities, how to complete applications, write resumes, and to handle job interviews.
 

The intent of Computerized Keyboarding is to give students keyboarding and computer skills that will serve them throughout their school years, in their personal lives and in their careers.  Even though computers and software programs will continue to improve, students will learn to use the computer keyboard more efficiently than if they use the "hunt and peck" system often used by people who have never had keyboarding before.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

Type at a rate of 40-50 words a minute for 5 minutes with no more than 5 errors.

bullet

Apply basic language arts principles correctly while typing a variety of documents.

bullet

Use and navigate through basic word-processing software.

bullet

Operate the computer and software quickly and correctly.

bullet

Type reports, create tables, and various kinds of business correspondence in a variety of formats.

bullet

Learn how to use the basic concepts of spreadsheet, desktop publishing, and database software.
