Diversified Career Preparation Program The Diversified Career Preparation Program (formerly called CO-OP) is a training program carried on cooperatively by local schools and business and retail establishments. Work experience in various types of occupations is received through employment each afternoon under the direction of competent supervisors. Each morning the school provides individual instruction in the various aspects of each student’s job in a specially scheduled class conducted by a teacher-coordinator. The program carries 1-1/2 credits per semester since classroom work and on-the job training are combined. Students do not schedule physical education classes when enrolled in the career preparation program. The Diversified Career Preparation Program strives to produce workers who are competent economically, socially, emotionally, and physically. Participants in this program should obtain knowledge, develop skills, and gain experience which will promote success in chosen fields. Since the Career Preparation Program is an educational endeavor rather than a “work program,” those interested only in monetary compensation are discouraged from participating. While working the required 15 hours per week, students must learn to manage their time and energy so as to maintain respectable grades and earn credits necessary for high school graduation.
