Jedi Knights Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi, are security guards for Padme Amidala, ruler of Naboo. The evil Sith Lord, Darth Sidious, sends the Trade Federation to invade Naboo. They capture Queen Amidala, but the Jedi escape. The Jedi encounter Gungan native Jar Jar Binks and rescue Amidala. On the desert planet Tatooine, they find a young slave boy, Anakin Skywalker, who is strong in the Force. Anakin wins his freedom by driving a pod race. Darth Maul, the evil Sith apprentice of Darth Sidious, attacks them, but Qui-Gon holds him off. Anakin goes with them to Coruscant, to be trained as a Jedi. On Coruscant, Qui-Gon tells the Jedi Council about Anakin and about the Sith attack Senator Palpatine talks Amidala into helping him overthrow Chancellor Valorum, so he can become the Senate leader himself. Amidala returns to Naboo and allies with the Gungans to battle the Trade Federation. Qui-Gon and Darth Maul duel with light sabers. Qui-Gon is fatally wounded and Obi-Won kills the Sith. Qui-Gon's dying words to Obi-Won are to take Anakin as an apprentice and train him in the Force. Naboo rejoices that the battle is won and they are safe.
