This depiction of Saint John Nepomuk, which was commissioned for the cemetery chapel in Caracas, Venezuela, honors the late-fourteenth-century confessor to Queen Johanna of Bohemia who was martyred for refusing to reveal the queen's confessions to her husband. The letters "tacui," which encircle the saint's head like a halo of stars, represent the Latin phrase, "I was silent."
