Barela presents the decisive moment in the story of Saint George.
Having captured the beast, the saint stands with his spear poised. He will
slay the dragon only if the local population converts to Christianity.
Unlike traditional santeros (carvers of saints) in New Mexico,
whose ornate depictions are brightly colored, Barela chiseled the figures
from a single piece of wood and left it unpainted.

En este grupo Barela representa el momento culminante de la historia de
San Jorge. Después de capturar al dragón, el santo está en pie
blandiendo su lanza. Sólo matará al monstruo si la población local se
convierte al cristianismo. A diferencia de los santeros tradicionales de
Nuevo México, que pintaban sus obras de vivos colores, Barela tallaba sus
figuras de un solo trozo de madera que dejaba en su color natural.
