Chapter 5
~*~A Couple Months Later~*~
"Can't you just give her something for the nausea? Please just do something to make her feel better." Jaime said in tears pleading with the nurses.
"Mrs. Richardson we have given her all we can. We."
"Can't you see that's not enough? Can't you see that?" As she said that she knocked a stack of papers off of the desk in anger. Kevin walked up and held her up from behind.
"Calm down. Calm down."
"No. They're letting our little girl suffer and your telling me to calm down. Let me go."
"Not until you calm down. They are doing all they can. The nausea is a side effect of the chemo. She is on so many drug as it is for side effects she doesn't need any more."
"I just want her to be ok. I don't want her in anymore pain." It was a good thing Kevin was holding her cause her legs turned to jelly.
"Baby are you ok?" Kevin said in a frantic tone.
"Yeah. I just felt like I was going to pass out. I'm ok now. You can let me go." Kevin helped her up and let her go. They walked back to Skye's room. Brian and AJ were talking to her trying to cheer her up.
Then AJ looked up and saw them standing in the door.
"Man Kevin, you really need to shave and get a haircut." AJ said smiling
"Yeah and maybe take a shower. Woo." Brian added also smiling. Skye giggled and that put a smile on Kevin's face. She hasn't done that much lately. Kevin walked and kissed her on the forehead.
"How are you feeling today?"
"Good. Today was my last chemo. I hope."
"So do I." Kevin turned to say something to Jaime, but she was gone.
"Where'd she go?" Kevin asked
"I never saw her leave." Brian said
"Me neither." AJ added.
He was totally engrossed in Skye. AJ was the one in the group who absolutely, positively adored little kids. He was the one who would find little kids in the towns they were performing in, at playgrounds and play games. No matter the game was. He loved being with them. The same with Brian. Brian was just a kid at heart though. It was hurting them both to see the only 'Backstreet Baby' sick.
Kevin walked out in the hall and he saw Jaime talking to the
doctor. The doctor walked away and left Jaime standing there. She
turned to Kevin and smiled. She ran over to him and almost
knocked him down.
"Come on. Come with me." She grabbed his hand and led
him into Skye's room. He hadn't seen her so happy since before
his last tour.
"What? Why are you so excited?" Kevin asked
"Brian and AJ have to hear this too. Where's your mom?"
"Umm I'll get her." Kevin went off running to find her. About five minutes later they came walking back in.
"So what is it that is so important you had my son running after me." Kevin's mom asked
"I talked to the doctor about Skye."
"And.come on Jay." Kevin said
"They found a donor. She's gonna have her transplant tomorrow."
"Are you serious? What took so long?"
"They had to go through all the donors they got in, but you won't believe who it is."
"Who? Jay.tell me"
"It was Nick."
Everyone looked at Jaime in amazement. All of them had been checked, but Nick had to go to his parents in California. No one knew he had been tested out there and the specimen was being sent to Florida.
The next day everyone waited patiently. It was probably the most nerve-racking experience any of them had ever had. Kevin looked out the window and at the dark clouds. He got up and walked outside. Jaime and his mom followed. They walked out the door and saw him standing in the rain. Jaime walked up to him from behind.
"Kevin wha.."
"She's ok. She's going to be ok."
"Huh? How?"
"My dad is watching over her. She will be ok."
"How do you know?"
"It started to rain. Everytime I'm worried about anything and it rain's I believe it's my dad. He's letting me know everything's ok."
"Ok. Can we go inside? It's cold."
