Myths and Misconceptions

Here's an interesting article on the Witch Hunts - I, personally, found it rather fascinating - it makes valid sounding claims in light of some of the many myths commonly held in regards to the hunts. It would be well worth the while to investigate further. This was found originally on a site called Draeconin's Background Designs

Recent Developments in the Study of the Great European Witch Hunts by Jenny Gibbons who has an M.A. in medieval history and minored in the history of the Great Hunt. You can contact her at jennyg@compuserve.com. This article originally appeared in issue #5 of the Pomegranate (Lammas, 1998).

Myth:  Black magic is evil magic.

Fact:  it's all in perspective.  People speak of white and black magic, personally I think there are so many shades in between that you could never truly say one thing is purely good or purely evil.

Myth:  All Witches are Wiccan.

Fact:  there are many facets of Paganism.  Not all Witches are wiccan.  as a matter of fact, not all Witches associate themselves with a particular facet of Paganism.

Religious zealots or the don't convert converters - ok...every religion has them - you know it. Yes, we would all love to think that there are no Witches or Pagans who are so extreme, but they are out there. They are the ones who say their way is the ONLY way to be, who insists that the root cause for all ills or fortunes is based in the alternative. The want you to be one of them. Side note - everyone is entitled to their opinion...the ones written here are merely mine....
