Love and A Cross
Love, we define love as the physical attraction between a man and a woman or the relationship between parent and child.
Love is much more than that especially when talking about Gods love. We all know that God gave us his only son, a sacrifice
for sin, but have you ever thought about what that really means? Put it in terms we can understand, a compete stranger is
about to die, someone you know by looking at them that they are no good, a drug dealer or maybe a murder, but still you give
your only child to take his place so he will be spared. Could you do it? That is exactly what God did for you and I that is
how God defines love. You and I were no better than the worst person you can think of before me met Christ. The Bible says
that at our best we are but filthy rags compared to Gads Holiness. I was one of the worst sinners you can think of; I was
a Liar, and an adulterer, I thought only of myself. Then I met Jesus now I search for the truth in all things and I go out
off my way to help everyone I find in need. I have even done without in order to help someone, but God blesses me every time.
The cross, why a cross? Well in the days of Christ that was the most degrading way in which someone could die. It was
designed to deter crime because it was done in a public place where everyone could see and often the victim was beaten before
being placed on the cross. The people watching would sometimes throw stones at the ones on the cross. Besides being degrading
it was also extremely painful sometimes a man would hang there all day without dieing, sometimes the guards or Roman soldiers
would break the victims legs if it was late in the day in order to speed up the death.
God had to let his son die in the worst way he could think of in order to insure that it would never be forgotten. There
had to be blood shed in order to cleanses the sins of the world.
God did for you and I what we could not do for ourselves. There is no other way in which we could receive Salvation.
I shed a tear every time I see a Cross with a figure of Christ hanging on it. The next time you see a cross with Christ on
it, think of a man unrecognizable because of the beatings he took before being placed there, and then think, that should be
me. We owe God more than a Sunday morning Church service; we owe him a life of dedicated service. I hope you give as much
as you receive.
Roman 5:8
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
