Scouting Tradition Returns To Burton and Conducts Court of Honor
Burton, OH. - October
19, 2002 Boy Scout Troop 197 celebrated its second year of operation serving the youth of Berkshire School District and the
Middlefield Area and is a youth outreach service of the Burton Congregational Church, its charter organization. The troop
recently conducted a Court of Honor on Thursday, October 17th. Court of Honor was conducted by Troop 197 to recognize
scouts who have earned various badges and awards.
Those scouts receiving honors included: Jeff A. (Life Scout), Jeff H. (Star Scout), Shawn, Cory, Chad (First Class Scout),
William, Calvin, Jon (Tenderfoot Scout). Also the scouts earned over 22 Merit Badges which are special skill training awards.
The troop also awarded Mr. and Mrs. Nutter and Mr. Hix with a two-year service pin. Mrs. Nutter was also awarded her training
patch.
The Troop also celebrated its second year of operation with a great feast, highlights, and fun memories that will last
a lifetime. Some of which include, Corys record camp bass, and his second place finish in the pancake golden griddle cook
off, the troops ski trip, summer camps, service projects, hill sliding and climbing, swimming, hiking and lots of camping
and other outdoor activities. The activities have resulted in an 80% youth membership increase over the past two years and
the troop earning its quality unit award. We would like to thank Troy Oaks Homes for the use of their community center for
the evening.
Boy Scout Troop 197 is always looking for new members that want a great scouting adventure and always needs community
