The Lone Gunmen
Don't forget the short-lived X-Files spinoff, The Lone Gunmen, makes it's Australian debut tonight at 10:30pm.

Today's Courier-Mail has a story on The Lone Gunmen and there is also a smaller article in The Gold Coast Bulletin.

This week's Brisbane News which came out yesterday also has the following short article:
It's the spin-off The X-Files was bound to have. But, as is often the way in Australia, it's often on a different network from the mother show. The Lone Gunmen (Seven, Thursday 30 August, 10.30pm) features conspiracy theorists Frohike,Langly and Byers, the magazine publishers who double (triple?) as Mulder's sources on The X-Files. They get their chance to do some investigating of their own when Byers' father is found dead and a secret government agency is implicated. To add some spice to the series , they also have to contend with a character called Yves Adelharlow, described as a "Lara Croft-esque cat burglar and professional rival". Sounds like something strictly for the fans - if they are still out there.
There are also articles on Jurassic Park 3 (Tea Leoni) in The Gold Coast Bulletin and Courier Mail today.

In overseas magazines, the UK X-Files Magazine no 58 (July) has now arrived at local newsagencies.
ThanX Lucy.

David at the Beach
The wonderful Lucy also told me about the NW article plus the following.

There is a promotional flyer of Spy Kids available now from Hoyts cinemas. New Idea has 5 photos of David Duchovny at the beach plus one of Tea Leoni with daughter Madelaine West. The Brisbane Sunday Mail TV Scene had a photo of The Lone Gunmen along with a brief summary of the first episodes. Who Weekly also has a photo of The Lone Gunmen with a brief summary of the first episode. The August 28 issue of the UK Magazine Hello which will arrive at newsagents later this week contains a couple of photos of David Duchovny and Tea Leoni.

I forgot to mention in my Sunday update below that The Sun-Herald also contained a scathing review of The Lone Gunmen, giving the pilot episode just one star.

Reyes
The following short article appeared in the August 8 issue of the free newspaper Queensland Pride accompanied by a photo of Annabeth Gish:
Producers of the popular TV sci-fi drama The X-Files have confirmed a new character, Agent Monica Reyes (Annabeth Gish), was very close to having been written as a lesbian. In a cliffhanger finale to the last series, which screened in the US in May, Reyes gushed to Agent Scully (Gillian Anderson), that she looked "amazingly beautiful" whilst Scully struggled to give birth. The comment sparked a lot of buzz among fans that producers John Shiban, Chris Carter, and Frank Spotnitz seriously considered exploring lesbianism as an option for the new character. "I can see where they got the idea [the character was gay]," Shiban told the US TV Week, "but we ultimately decided that it's the kind of baggage that we didn't want to deal with.... we had other ideas that we were more excited about."

Gish feels the whole thing was "harmless," since, "most women look beautiful when they're giving birth, and it was a very authentic birth experience." However Shiban would not rule out the possibility a queer character may pop up on the long-running series. "On The X-Files, anything can happen, so I don't want to discount anything. Life is complicated."
Evolution Posters
The poster of Evolution can be bought at various Hoyts cinemas and if you live in Queensland some Birch, Carroll and Coyle Cinemas for $5. A smaller version of the poster is also available at Hoyts for $3.
ThanX Lucy.

Spy Kids
You can win tickets to the US smash hit Spy Kids, featuring Robert Patrick, in today's Sun-Herald. The school holiday scheduled movie opens on September 20.

Evolution and Video News
If the Sun-Herald is anything to go by, David Duchovny's Evolution is one of the worst movies ever. How else can they explain that yesterday Evolution was their thumbs down movie for an amazing 4 weeks in a row?

While on the subject of Evolution, Matthew on ausxfnews advises that the Civic website has the movie scheduled for a December video release. The House Of Mirth, starring Gillian Anderson, is scheduled to be released in February 2002.

Meanwhile, DX_GiRL is in the process of creating an Evolution website, including her photos taken at the David Duchovny Sydney premiere.
