Season 9 Update
Those Australians still interested in The X-Files (and the numbers are rapidly dwindling), were dealt a harsh blow earlier in the week with news that season 9 won't air down under until July!

A lot of online fans thought Frank Spotnitz was lying a few weeks ago when he said Mulder would return and that David Duchovny would direct an episode, but now news from the Official Site:
PRESS RELEASE

DAVID DUCHOVNY TO RETURN FOR THE TWO-HOUR SERIES FINALE OF 'THE X-FILES' MAY 19

Duchovny Also Slated To Direct One of Show's Final Episodes

David Duchovny will reprise his role as FBI Agent Fox Mulder when he stars in the two-hour series finale of THE X-FILES Sunday May 19 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

In true X-FILES fashion, story details for the remaining episodes of the series are under tight wrap. The final five episodes will begin to provide highly anticipated answers to many of the show's most-asked questions, culminating in the two-hour finale in which Agent Mulder is reunited with Agent Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) after having gone missing for the past year. Also, the final episodes of the series will examine many of the pieces involved in the long-running mythology that has continued throughout the show's nine seasons. The series finale is being written by series creator and executive producer Chris Carter and directed by co-executive producer Kim Manners.

In addition to appearing in the two-hour series finale, Duchovny is also confirmed to direct THE X-FILES episode scheduled to air Sunday, April 28 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), which is based on a story idea he co-wrote with Carter and executive producer Frank Spotnitz.

(Webmaster's note: The story for Untitled 9X17 is by David Duchovny, Chris Carter & Frank Spotnitz. Carter will write the teleplay. Mulder will not appear in the episode.)
Magazine Update
In local newsagencies now are the latest UK X-Files Magazine [issue #61] and Xpose [issue #63] with a Gillian Anerson cover and article.

Season 9
Still no word on when season 9 will air in Australia ... but for the first time ever it won't be starting in February/early March, and with the new season programs already slotted in to the channel 10 schedule, it may not be for some time.

According to Ezy DVD the X-Files season 4 DVD has been pushed back a month to 24 April.

Ether
'X-Files' producer lands medical thriller

"X-Files" executive producer Frank Spotnitz will make his big-screen writing, directing and producing debut with the medical thriller "Into The Ether," Variety reports.

The story deals with a female medical resident who becomes suspicious about deaths at her hospital. The screenplay was originally written by Brian Carr but will be redrafted by Spotnitz, the report said.

Spotnitz, a former newspaper and magazine writer, has won a shelf-full of trophies for his eight years with "X-Files," which ends its run this season.

He has also worked as a co-executive producer with "Millennium," and was an executive producer on "Harsh Realm" and "The Lone Gunmen". He also co-wrote the 1998 "X-Files" movie.
