Faux finish is a term that, sadly, is often misused. The true meaning of 'faux', is from the French, which means 'fake' or 'imitation'. A true "faux finish" is designed to imitate something else - ie. marble, stone, etc. - and it is this that differentiates it from the simpler glazing techniques.
