Grandpa
Tom sat quietly in his rose garden on his old rocking chair. Grandma Harriet had
passed away a week ago. Grandpa Tom stared out into the garden and began to cry.
Four-year-old
Little Mary sat on the sink as her mother did the dishes. She looked through the
window and saw Grandpa Tom crying. " Why is Grandpa Tom crying,
Mummy?" Little Mary asked.
Little
Mary's mother set her down on the floor and told her,” Mary, Grandpa Tom is
crying because he has a broken heart. Grandma Harriet had passed away a week
ago. Mary, let Grandpa Tom be alone for a while. Do not run over to his house to
ask him tell you stories as you have always did. He needs some time alone,"
Little
Mary nodded her head.
Grandpa
Tom looked up at Little Mary's gentle touch. He wiped the tears away from his
eyes. Little Mary handed him a band-aid. Puzzled, Grandpa Tom asked her why. To
this, Little Mary replied," Mummy said that you have a broken
heart. I hope
this band aid will mend your broken heart."
