Chapter 5 - Hitching
a Ride

Crono was drinking coffee as best as he could.
He didn’t care if he didn’t know anything about this
world. He was too
concerned with Lavos going to a government lab.
He remembered where another news report had said Lavos would
go. They said it would
got to a facility in Washington State.
He had no idea where Washington State was.
He decided to ask the bartender where Washington State was.
When he did, the bartender almost started laughing, until he
saw Crono staring at her like he was going to beat someone down.
She quickly got a map out and laid it across the table.
“Ok, you don’t seem to be from
around this country. Right
now, you are in New York City.”
She pointed to he right part of the United States on the map.
Crono nodded.
“Now, here’s Washington,”
she said, moving her finger across to the west.
“It’s a very long away, so I would recommend a car and a
good amount of money.” At
least Crono knew what a car was.
“Oh, and nice costume, you look
so cute with that sword!” Crono decided not to explain to her, and said thank you and
left out the door. All
hopes of him walking to the facility were lost.
He saw a red mustang pull up to a McDonald’s.
He was going to go to Washington, so he needed a ride. He cast Luminaire in a spot so that it almost touched the
mustang and the guy inside it.
He was baffled, and he saw Crono approaching him.
He was so baffled he couldn’t move.
He hopped into the car.
“Sir, I need you to drive me to
a place where they took Lavos, in Washington.”
“You mean that alien thing?”
asked the man. Crono
grinned. “Oh no, I’m
not . . .” Crono cast Lit 1 to his left.
The man pushed the petal the hardest he could and almost
drove through the drive through window.
Crono found a pair of glasses and put them on.
“Uh, my name is Jeremiah” said
the dark, built man with a New York accent.
Crono thought it funny.
“Why do you need to go to see that thing man?”
“It threatens Earth,” said
Crono.
“You’re not from around here,
are you?” asked Jeremiah. By
now, Crono was getting sick and tired of people saying this.
“I’m not from around this time
period,” said Crono. He
looked serious enough for Jeremiah to believe him.
“So you mean, you’re trying to
kill this thing?” said Jeremiah.
“I’ve done it before, and you’re
going to help me,” said Crono, thinking deeply about Marle.
Jeremiah was not too looking forward to the moment.
They passed by a sign that said they were exiting New York.
Crono looked at Jeremiah, and looked at a clothes bag.
He switched clothes real quick, and went to sleep.
Jeremiah looked at Crono, and started to curse at himself for
his ill luck. Crono
already had some of his best clothes on. Jeremiah opened the passenger door, and kicked Crono the
hardest he could out the door, and sped out to the next state.
Crono woke up, and took some glasses out from the pocket of
his new jacket, and decided to wait for the next person to come.
He saw a truck labeled government property, alien specimen,
and three cops, following it. One
cop stopped Crono by the curve. |
