Hayle Mail June 5, 1914

The S.S. New York made a splendid trip arriving on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o-clock. There were about twenty Cornish people on her, nearly all going to Michigan, where I understand there is plenty of work at the present time. we had some splendid singing, all of the boys having exceptionally good voices, the leaders being Leonard Cadwell and Charles Bond. We have quite a few Cornish leaving on the Lusitania tonight, mostly all from Globe, Arizona, going to St Austell and Hayle.

The Cornish Association met last Saturday evening, there were about sixty present. It was a social and a very enjoyable evening was spent. Mr & Mrs Bert Collins of Redruth and Mr & Mrs E Sedgman of Porthleven, harmonized beautifully in a quartet. Mr Richard Banfield of Truro sand several solos. He has a very fine tenor voice. Mr Cargeek one time champion wrestler tols a number of Cornish anecdotes and then we had refreshments, ice cream and cakes, all departing very well satisfied.

the weather in New York is becoming very warm, and the lawn of the Cornish Arms Hotel is well patronized by our guests in the evening now.
