Corolla Drag Car with 650 hp 13BIntroduction:A distant freind of mine has a passion for going fast. In the past his projects have been an RX2 fitted with a peripheral port 13B and then an LPG (Propane) powered 13B turbo. This car was sold and he moved onto other things (Nissan Skyline GTR, Lexus SC400). Then in 2000 (?) he got the rotary bug again and wanted a super fast road car. In the end it was too tricky to drive and became a track car only. The engine is a 1986-1998 RX7 TurboII ('Series 4' RX7) and produced just over 500 rear wheel horsepower at around 20PSI boost on the dyno ('Calculated' to be Flywheel horsepower of 650). Other features include full roll cage, racing seat and harness, stripped interior, fibreglass doors, JC Cosmo oil cooler, twin throttle bodies, Supra 5 speed, Ford 9 inch differential, fully floating axles (traditional differentials like this have the wheel mounted on the axle, if the axle breaks the wheel can fall off. With fully floating axles the wheel load is on a bearing independant of the axle) The best 1/4 mile time is a low 9 at over 120mph - which is much faster than any european sports car. The car has more potential but has not been used for several months. I was taken for a ride one afternoon - At that stage it was running 9PSI and only about 1/3 throttle was used but it was still enough to accelerate as hard as any other car I've been in. Stay tuned - I plan to add more photos and/or a video and a write up from the owner and/or the technician who did the build-up. Photos:
I have some videos but they are too big for any of the free web hosts. [TOP OF THIS PAGE][TOP PAGE OF SITE] This page last updated 4/7/2002 Update History: 4/7/2002 - Created page |
