First Screens: Die Hard: Vendetta
See the first shots of Die Hard: Vendetta.
February 19, 2002 - Today Bits studios announced
the official name and first screenshots of its long anticipated first-person
shooter, Die Hard: Vendetta. The GameCube exclusive pits gamers in the
shoes of none other than John McClane himself, perhaps the most unfortunate cop
in motion picture history. Die Hard: Vendetta is entirely original with an
all-new storyline, as well as "spectacular graphics and innovative
gameplay," according to Fox and Vivendi. The storyline follows the exploits
of respected police officer John McClane (Bruce Willis' character in the movies)
years after the last sequel left off. McClane has long since retired and is
living in Los Angeles, California, where the majority of the game takes place,
according to a Vivendi spokesperson. Shortly after graduating police academy,
McClane's daughter Lucy, now obviously much older, comes face to face with the
son of McClane's old enemy Hans Gruber, the European terrorist featured in the
first film -- and he is of course out for revenge.
Bits Studios says that the first-person shooter gameplay stresses tactics and
stealth as much as big, bold gun work. The developers further promise
"unprecedented character interaction and amazing in-game cinematics."
The entire experience promises to offer up more than 12 levels and features
"a new hero mode, The Matrix-style effects and state of the art AI."
Players will be able to control either McClane or his daughter depending on the
situation. Last we heard Die Hard: Vendetta only serves up single-player action,
but developer Bits is allegedly working on including a four-player mode too.
Let's hope the team has time to implement an equally impressive multiplayer
mode.

Die Hard: Vendetta is scheduled for release at the end of 2002 for both the US
and Europe. cube zone will keep you informed of the latest developments in the
coming months. In the meantime, check out our media section below for the first
