1. John¹ Maggard, son of Samuel Maggard and Rebecca Robertson, (#1604) was born in Rockingham County, Va 10 Oct 1796. John died 13 May 1882 in Wooten, Leslie County, Ky, at 85 years of age.

He married Sarah Adams in Floyd County, Ky, 13 Aug 1818. (Sarah Adams is #1608.) Sarah was born in North Carolina 8 Jun 1802. Sarah was the daughter of Moses Adams and Mary Garland. Sarah died 23 Apr 1870 in Wooten, Leslie County, Ky, at 67 years of age. At 16 years of age Sarah became the mother of Polly Maggard in Letcher County, Ky, 24 May 1819. At 17 years of age Sarah became the mother of Henry Maggard in Letcher County, Ky, 21 May 1820. At 19 years of age Sarah became the mother of Isaac Maggard in Virginia, 8 May 1822. At 21 years of age Sarah became the mother of Moses Maggard in Letcher County, Ky, 5 Mar 1824. At 23 years of age Sarah became the mother of Samuel Maggard in Leslie County, Ky, 21 Jan 1826. At 25 years of age Sarah became the mother of Jesse Maggard in Leslis County, Ky, 16 Mar 1828. At 27 years of age Sarah became the mother of Rebecca Maggard in Leslie County, Ky, 23 Mar 1830. At 30 years of age Sarah became the mother of John A. Maggard in Leslie County, Ky, 28 Sep 1832. At 32 years of age Sarah became the mother of Sarah Maggard in Leslie County, Ky, 10 Feb 1835. At 35 years of age Sarah became the mother of Gilbert Maggard in Leslie County, Ky, 18 Sep 1837. At 37 years of age Sarah became the mother of Reuben Maggard in Perry County, Kentucky, 5 May 1840. At 40 years of age Sarah became the mother of Nancy Maggard in Hyden, Leslie County, Ky, 1 Nov 1842.
