Hamilton stared at the book he was reading. The words looked like one big blur, and his head pounded fiercely. Going to his parent's bathroom, he popped a couple of Advil's in his mouth and walked downstairs to get a snack in the kitchen.
There was nothing to do. It had only been three days since Jake, Will, and Scout had all left, and Hamilton was laying low, trying to keep away from Finn and at the same time trying to spend all the time he could at the boy's dorms, because at least there was a Nintendo there.
Once and a while he would sneak up to Jake's old room, which still had most of her stuff, and look around, reminiscing. He felt foolish being so obsessive and mopey, but he was completely miserable without her.
He had yet to receive an e-mail from her; he supposed she was busy with her mom, but he checked the school's computers every day. As he left his house and headed toward the dorms, he looked out at the now-empty campus, and sighed. He saw the docks, where they had had crew meets, and way over to the left, the "secret" hiding place that used to hold her motorcycle.
With another huge sigh, he walked up the stairs to the boys dorms. As he settled into the seat and checked his e-mail, he was rewarded with the "Receiving Mail" message. His hopes rose, and he watched as the message appeared on his screen. It was from Jake! It read:

"Hey boy. How's it going down there at Rawley? How are things with Bella's station going? Any word on whether or not Finn knows about me?? That has been the only burr in my butt the whole time I've been up here. Well, that and the fact that I haven't seen you in so long. I miss you, you know. There's a lot going on up here, but my mom leaves tomorrow, so....If you don't have anything better to do you can always hitch a train up here. I sure wouldn't mind a few quality days, alone, with you. What do you think? Let me know. You know where to reach me, Hammie.
I love you!
Jake :) "
Hamilton's grin was about five miles wide. He immediately picked up the phone and called his mom, then the train station.
As Jake sent the message, she wondered if she was being too bold, inviting him up here for a few days. She was sure that he could make up some excuse to leave for his parents, but it seemed like a big step for their relationship.
However, her longing to see him again took over and she pushed all her worries aside. She just hoped he could make it up here. After all, if Finn really knew her secret, she might not see him again for a long, long while.
As she finished checking her other mail, she was about to Log Off when she got another piece of mail. Curious, she opened it and found:

"Hey boy. I would love to come up for a few days. Um, you do have an extra room for me, right? I just told my mom that I want to go visit my aunt, she lives up in NYC and my parents are too busy preparing for the next session to worry if that's exactly where I go or not. Bella and her dad are happy, because the Auction has been set back for the next three weeks, due to difficulties getting people interested. Whatever, I'm just glad they have a while to figure it out. Will and Scout took off to St. Martin's, and I have been totally avoiding Finn for the last three days. So far, he hasn't told my parents. So maybe that's a good sign?....who knows.
Anyway, I look forward to seeing you, I am taking the 9:00 train tomorrow morning. Please send directions.
I love you more,
Hamilton ;) "
Jake's nervous butterflies returned. She was so happy to hear that he could come, but at the same time, she was scared to be alone in the house with him. It seemed like such an adult thing to do, and they were only barely 16. But it was only for a few days, and it was Hamilton, for god's sake. He knew how she felt about that kind of thing, and they could just sleep in different rooms and whatever.
Feeling better about the idea, she began to get excited about his visit. "Oh my god..." she said, remembering something, "I've got to go get some new shoes..." Grabbing her purse, saying goodbye to her packing mother, and running out to her bike, she sped off in the direction of the nearest mall, feeling extremely happy for the first time in days.
