  • [DC Zone Review: Evolution]

DC's first RPG impresses only the novice RPG'ers and proves it has some potential. The game's characters are excellent, and have unique abilities and personalities.

Ubi Soft has built quite a world and some great characters, but the game is only played in one real town, and playing time clocks in at around 20 hours (Compliments to DCM for the info) and it would be way to easy for all of you FF (Final Fantasy) fans. But remember, this is a first-gen RPG, and it has room for error, and a sequel. Evolution 2 has actually been allready finished in Japan, and confirmed for the States.

Basically, you play as Mag Launcher, and your job is to search for ruins in search of mythical Evolutia, a treasure passed down by generations of Launchers. Well instead of exploring far and wide over several lands and towns, you spend 90% or so of your time in dungeons leveling up your characters. But, I do have to admit that the battles are very nicely done, and the graphics really shine. The dungeons also feature these unique traps that can either hinder or help you out during your quest.

Even though Evolution's weak plot takes away from the game, the characters really make up for it, and the graphics will impress you. If you are just dying for an RPG for your DC I guess this is your choice, well your only choice at the moment, and it should probably keep you busy until the sequel. But don't forget, DC has some other great looking RPG games coming soon including:
    • Eternal Arcadia
    • Phantasy Star Online
    • And of course...Shenmue
