Evolution of a Darkelf Model
Although now somewhat different from those seen hear I was among the original team that were designing the dark elves for Morrowind. These are my concept drawings and preliminary models. I first started with some sketches. One can be seen on the left. See the Gallery for more examples.

The Model
I then moved on to build a high-res. model to try to capture a "look" for the race. Although the skin colour is not the blue/grey seen on the current elves, it's main function was to convey an attitude more than anything else.

Real time mode.
From there we moved onto the realtime model. The one shown here is not the current game model but it gives one an an idea of the polygon count in the models for this project.

Textures
As we would be seeing the elves, and other NPCs from close quarters it was decided to have a fairly high detail level in the face textures. Here's an early example.

Hair
The next stop was adding hair. We chose to use seperate hair pieces to give us more variety in the characters. Again, here are some early examples. Keep in mind however that most of these have been, or will be, modified and refined before the game is released.

"'Head', meet 'Body'"
With the model almost complete here's a shot of the elf. The last stage is to add clothing.

The elf is finally ready for the game. Here he is in merchant garb.
