Lair of the Unidragon, Page Twenty-Two

After travelling along the right-hand route for about an hour, you see a tall mountain off in the distance with a cave at the top. Smoke is drifting out of the cave entrance. A-ha! you think. Now we're getting somewhere. This HAS to be the Unidragon's lair.

Several hours later, you have reached the bottom of the mountain. You start to climb up. It is hard work, but with your light and agile body, it doesn't take long. Puffing and swearing, you eye the cave entrance. Suddenly, it hits you. I'm going to fight the Unidragon! The most feared creature in all Azura! Well, I've come this far, you reflect, might as well get it over with. You wish your had brought some more armour--all you have is a leather vest on over your fine clothes and your shield. But you never wear armour in your normal job--it weighs you down when scaling a wall, and clanks when tiptoeing across a bedchamber.
Enough of this musing, you cut yourself off angrily. I'm not going to be any more ready a few minutes from now than I am now. Maybe he will be asleep and Princess Zenith and I can simply sneak away. You straighten up as best you can, although your heart is pounding madly, and step quietly into the cave.
"Well, Questor, so you finally decided to grace us with your presence," calls a voice, and it's not Princess Zenith. The Unidragon turns towards you, slowly, uncoiling his long tail.
So much for doing this the easy way. In the corner of your eye, you can see Princess Zenith mouthing, "No. No." over and over again. What does she mean, you wonder. Don't rescue her?
You have no more time to ponder the matter as the Unidragon opens his great jaws to breathe fire. You fling yourself to the floor of the cave, rolling out of the path of the flames, then jab upwards, right into his underbelly.
Nothing! The softest part of the creature, and your expertly tempered dwarven-made steel bounces off as if you'd struck a stone wall! What the...? You try a couple more blows, with the same result. Princess Zenith is holding her head in her hands now, afraid to watch. Exhausted, you don't notice the Unidragon preparing to breathe fire again...
The cave is filled with the smell of scorched hair and flesh, and a great searing pain smothers your entire being. You collapse to the floor, twitching feebly.
The Unidragon takes pity on your plight and finishes you off.
