The most common of the five races, Humes have spread from Bastok to inhabit every corner of Vana'diel. In comparison to the other races, Humes are fairly balanced in their abilities. They are intelligent and highly skilled. This combination of traits has allowed them to build Bastok into a prosperous nation driven by technology and industry.

The Republic of Bastok

A republic founded by the technologically advanced Hume race on the southern portion of the Quon continent. Every few years, the citizens of Bastok elect a Hume president as their head of state. Bastok was once a small town that was mainly supported by the nearby mythril mines. Today, however, it has grown into a highly industrialized city famed for its advances in smelting, refining, and metalworking. The southern portion of the city is largely settled by a race of powerful individuals known as the Galka, who play a major role in excavating, developing, and working the mines.

Tips on how to roleplay

Humes are the most dynamic of all the races because they can look and sound like whatever they want. Humes are free to be aggressive, kind, withdrawn, intellectual, or whatever else they want. Although men are slightly taller and heavier than Hume women, it isn't a surprise to see female Red Mages fighting alongside male counterparts with equal effectiveness. Humes can obtain such jobs as Bards, Red Mages, Paladins, and Dark Knights with considerable ease.

It's difficult to say how to play as a Hume; there are so many personalities that people will find their own paths. A great deal of a Hume's attitudes should be influenced by their starting location. Humes from Bastok could be seen as more aggressive and technologically-orientated than Humes from Windurst.
