Note: box office totals and predictions at bottom of page.

Recent reports have said that Gangs of New York will be opening on December 20th now, instead of the 25th. This is a pretty bold move on the movie's part, considering that LOTR: The Two Towers opens only two days before, in a record high 5000+ theatres, but hopefully, the Scorsese flick will be able to survive the onslaught.

Several trailers have come out recently, and I must say that the Catch Me If You Can trailer looks fantastic. It looks surprisingly witty, and has that kind of 60s groove to it. (The trailer itself could almost be said to be split up into three parts. The first part of the trailer deals with showing Frank, who is a "faker", the second part of the trailer deals with the emotional stuff, and the third part of the trailer deals with the names involved in the picture.

Meanwhile, reviews over at DVDFILE indicate that the Spider-Man dvd is a bit disappointing, the Attack of the Clones dvd is demo material, and LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring Extended 4 Disc Set is one of the best ever, with loads of stuff, including 4 commentaries, and an astonishingly comprehensive 6 hour documentary.

Something for fans to cry out about, the enchanting new movie, Spirited Away from master director Hayao Miyazaki has been unceremoniously dumped into theatres. While Disney marketed it slightly, and there seemed to be hope for it, Disney quickly failed avid anime fans' expectations, not at all releasing it in wide release, but now, after a month being in theatres, it is still in less than 200 theatres. Damn Disney and all of their bad marketing skills. When Princess Mononoke failed as well at the box-office back a couple years ago, they blamed it on the fact that no one wanted to see it, when I would've said it was poor marketing techniques on their behalf that failed Princess Mononoke. Now, hard to believe, but yup, they've done it again effectively killing off Spirited Away, not to mention the fact that they still have Laputa somewhere ON THE SHELF GATHERING DUST, where it's been for some two odd years now. God, do I wish I could meet the Disney guy in charge of all this: first thing I'd do, I swear I'd punch him as hard as I could. Three strikes Disney, and you're out. Three entire chances to do something right for once, and you blew it all three times.

More thoughts will be added to here later...

I have a small article from the newspaper in Ottawa to start this section off today that I thought would amuse any who have seen Fight Club, and remember it pretty well (to the right):

In the past couple weeks since the last update a few things have happened of interest. The first is that the rumors are that the actors for the Batman vs Superman movie have been cast, with Jude Law (Gattaca, A.I., Road to Perdition) as Superman, and Colin Farrell (Minority Report, Phone Booth, the upcoming Daredevil) as Batman.

Also, Austin Powers star and writer Mike Myers has said that he is definitely open to doing another one, despite previous word that the 3rd one that opened Saturday (to a mothalode of money) would be the last. "I would love to do more, Jay and I were apprehensive about doing a 3rd, then we felt that we had a good idea, we had a great time doing it, the response has been awesome, we’ve loved this whole experience. I think now we would love to do a 4th one, I don’t have an idea yet so if I come up with an idea - then yeah. I had so much fun."

As well, some more interesting news...there have been two big name projects in development recently about Alexander the Great, one of which consists of the grand master of directors -Martin Scorsese teaming up with Leonardo DiCaprio, and the other being another well known director Oliver Stone teaming up with Heath Ledger. The Scorsese project is at this point in time still just being considered. And now, joining this "race of the Alexanders" is Baz Luhrmann, the new and refreshing director of Moulin Rouge and Strictly Ballroom, who seems to be the closest to being finished. While I respect Scorsese, and think that Stone is a powerful director who is capable of manipulating an audience to his way of thinking (think JFK), I honestly have to say that Luhrmann is the one I'm cheering for to get this project done the best. After Moulin Rouge, my favourite movie of last year, I'd cheer on any project he decided to take on.

I'd also like to comment that it seems Chazz Palminteri (Usual Suspects) is back these days, as he's suddenly been appearing everywhere...I saw him on The Tonight Show, Letterman, or Conan (not sure which) just recently, and I was surprised to see him in a Vanilla Coke commercial that's been playing frequently.

Lastly, I just saw OLP (Our Lady Peace) last night on Craig Kilborn, and man, what the heck happened to them??? They are after all my favourite band, but last night they were just plain horrible...Raine Maida (the lead singer) looked like he was worse for the wear, and sort of drunk or something, which wouldn't have been too bad if it weren't for the fact that he was also off tune throughout most of "Somewhere out There". I hope they get their act together, because now that they're doing mainstream rock music as a pose to their original unique style most noticeable in their albums Happiness and Clumsy, they have much more of a chance to get noticed finally in the U.S. after all these years...Anyway, that was a messed up performance, and I would have almost sworn they picked a homeless guy off the street and got him to stand in for the real Raine Maida...

Some tidbits today, Resident Evil is getting the full 2 disc treatment from Columbia (as reported by DVDFILE), so those who are willing to wait for it, don't get the single disc edition coming out July 30th. Specs and street date have not been announced yet.

The big Batman & Superman movie being planned for release in Summer 2004 is being done by director Wolfgang Petersen, with the script being penned by Andrew Kevin Walker (Sleepy Hollow, most famous for Se7en). Petersen has mentioned the possibilty of Academy Award winner Matt Damon (The Bourne Identity, Good Will Hunting) to play one of the lead roles -"Matt's an interesting action man and a hell of an actor".

In other quick news, both stars of Men in Black II have mentioned they would be willing to star in a third entry in the MIB franchise, Colin Farrell (Minority Report, Phone Booth) has signed on to star opposite Samuel L. Jackson in S.W.A.T., Ron Howard is moving onto the next project and abandoning The Alamo as a director (but not as a producer) because of delays in shooting, and the origin elements in Daredevil will be told in flashback sequences rather than starting off with the origin elements like in Spider-man.
