15th ANNUAL REUNION
CHICAGO AREA SKATERS
THE ORBIT SKATE CENTER
PALATINE, ILL

15TH ANNUAL SKATERS REUNION

October, 2, 1999.. OK, I can only guess, but I would say at least
300 of us old timers were at the Orbit for the 15th annual skaters
reunion. Most of these folks put on skates and skated once again
to the beautiful sounds of organ music as played by Paul Grosnick.

Paul Grosnick

But there was also time to talk, and talk they did, about those
fabulous Roller Rinks that could be found in the Chicago Area
in the 1930's, 40's, 50's etc...

Some of the names of rinks I heard were
Roller Bowl, Madison Gardens, Elms
North Avenue, Hub, Riverview,
Axle and even the Palomar in Milwaukee.
I am sure there were others, but if I left your favorite off
this list just remind me and I will see that it is included..
It would be impossible for me to mention the names of all
those in attendence, but if you were there and would like to
have your comments included in this Reunion page, my email
address is at the bottom of this page..

I will mention the names of some old friends from the
Hub / Axle on Harlem Avenue.

Bill Kohn, who was manager of the Axle, and probably misses
the Hub/Axle as much as anyone I know..

BillKohn

Jim Keating, who had a stint at playing that Giant Wurlitzer
at the Hub, and loves to skate.

Jim Keating

John Petrie, Former Hub Guard, who met
his lifetime love Bobbie at the Hub in the mid-fifties.
Where is the PIC???? Sorry Bobbie and John, I thought
I took your picture... Well for the record you both still
look great....

Bob Hagerman, Hub skateroom guru of the late 50's, 60's ???
found the lovely Ramona (Mona) at the Hub, he likes to
fish and boat, and when he met Mona,
he said "this one is a keeper".

Bob and Lida

Yes it is Bob Hagerman, with Lee Randall, sorry I missed you Mona..

Gosh, I hope I got this right,

Vince and Diana Skarda, another "match made at the Hub"
Met there in 1981. Dave and Kathy Jack, Dave was a Hub Regular
Back in 1952 until 1956..

I do believe we have Jack and Pearle Kenny here..

and friends Dick and Lynn Guthrie...

Yes, it was a wonderful night, but will there be another??

There is concern, since the man responsible for these annual reunions, Tim Buckwinkler, passed away recently..

With that said, let's say a prayer for Tim, and thank him for his effort with this event...
